Re: How to Rip Blu-Ray discs with MakeMKV and handbrake
I'm running into a new problem with ripping BluRays that I buy used off eBay. I've never had a problem before but this one is giving me SCSI errors and all kinds of issues. Has anything changed lately in terms of how BluRays are encrypted or protected? Can anyone steer me in the right direction abo...

Re: Botched subtitles when ripping Avatar
My copy of Avatar has two subtitle tracks. One is as you describe with "Speaking in Navi" and the other is as you expect, without the extra stuff. Both tracks are 'forced subtitles'.

Re: Laputa - No usabel subtitles found in the MKV result file
The output suggests that there are subtitle tracks in your MKV file. It also says they're of type: Codec ID : S_HDMV/TEXTST Which is a legit format it seems: https://www.matroska.org/technical/subtitles.html It is, however, uncommon I think. I searched through all my MKV files and I only have 1 movi...

Re: Rising Sun
I think the OP means the movie from 1993 https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0107969/ which I do not think has been released on UHD (https://www.blu-ray.com/Rising-Sun/18120/).

Re: Removing subtitles doesn't make file sizes much smaller
As an example, I looked at a MKV rip of a DVD movie I have using MediaInfo . The total size is 5.66GiB. The video is 5.02GiB of that total. The AC-3 5.1 audio track of 370MiB. There are two stereo AC-3 audio tracks at 132MiB each. There are 3 subtitle tracks. The smallest is 3.73MiB. The largest is ...

Re: remux vs makemkv?
Using MakeMKV will be a single step to making a .mkv file from a disc. Like the process you linked to, you'll end up with an exact copy of the movie in a .mkv container.

What type of movie file do you have? Is it a .mkv? A .mp4? Something else?

Re: A Better Way To Find The Correct Playlist/Segment Map
It seems like OpenedFilesView ( https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/opened_files_view.html ) is a Windows program. MetalDave was asking about how to do it on a Mac. MacOS has something called fs_usage ( https://ss64.com/osx/fs_usage.html ). You can make it show you all the file system events that a progra...

Re: Pi 4: Can it play blu ray rips
Play blu-ray rips how?
I have a Pi 4 that I use as a Plex server. As long as my client(s) don't need things transcoded on the fly, it plays blu-rays and 4k UHDs fine.
Or, do you mean playing a rip directly on the Pi with a display attached to the Pi as if it were a traditional PC? Or some other way?

Re: Optical Drive Enclosures
There's nothing magical about an enclosure for an optical drive. If you're handy you could build a box out whatever you've got lying around. Or just get some foam tape and tape them together in a stack. Then use a SATA to USB converter to power and connect them to your computer. https://www.sabrent....

Re: Making on MKV with the right Atmos codec for AppleTV through Infuse or MrMC
When I look with mediainfo at a MKV file I have with a Dolby Atmos audio track, it looks different than yours. Audio #1 ID : 2 ID in the original source medium : 4352 (0x1100) Format : MLP FBA 16-ch Format/Info : Meridian Lossless Packing FBA with 16-channel presentation Commercial name : Dolby True...

Re: Weird extra audio track on Criterion Brazil BD
VLC doesn't seem to differentiate between DTS and DTS-MA. A tool like Mediainfo (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MediaInfo) can tell the difference however.

Re: Error 'Posix error - File name too long'
The example given is 106 characters. I doubt the redacted portions are long enough to make the whole thing more than 255 characters. Most likely, there's a permissions problem on the volume which is bubbling up with the posix error. Try to make the backup on your iMac's internal drive or some other ...

Re: Trouble making full disc back-ups
With VLC 3.0.11.1, on a Mac, if I do File -> Advanced Open File -> Disc -> Open VIDEO_TS / BDMV folder and then point to a BDMV from a backup from MakeMKV, it'll open it up and load the menus, FBI warnings and all that stuff. I'm a VLC novice, as it is not my preferred player, so there's probably a ...
