I got the same DVDFab/MacTheRipper error on each of the discs when I tried to rip te dvd box "The Six Million Dollar Man" that I bought from (a partner of) Amazon US a few months ago. The counterfeit was very professionally made and I would not have taken a closer look at it, had MakeMKV ...

Alright found a local copy of Foxcatcher region 2 for 8 bux, should be here in a week. I'll be trying it on 4 drives of different brands and form factors.

It fails to read the sectors of the disc and never gets started to make the ISO. This happens on both copies of the disc. Hmm, not good. I suppose you could try using DVD Decrypter in IFO mode to dump it to .vob files instead of .iso There is also DVD Shrink if you can be bothered trying it in reau...

Every DVD drive I've ever had including more recently the 2 USB externals and 2 SATA internals (Asus and LiteOn) have firmware region lock, and you only get a limited number of region changes in the Windows device options, so changing the region from one DVD disc to another is not a practical option...

Try dumping the disc to an .ISO image file with DVD Decrypter then open the .ISO file in MakeMKV.

MakeMKV doesn't alter any of the video or audio streams, it just moves them into an mkv file. So I'm quite confident MakeMKV is not the culprit. My guess at what is happening: if the audio track in question is Dolby AC3 then it might have DRC (dynamic range compression) metadata inside it which tell...

This alone sounds to me like you got a bootleg, all my real Warner Archive discs have had high quality prints for the DVD case. Thanks for this piece of information.
