I have just downloaded MakeMKV but I can't download any subtitles. I have selected the subtitles in the sub-menu but nothing seems to happen as a result.

Can someone tell me how I can download them please.

Magic crystal ball is not available at this time, so we need more information.

Are their subtitles on the disk you're trying to rip? MakeMKV won't add them if they're not on the disk.

Yes they are on the disc - the film is in Mandarin. I have ensured that the subtitles are ticked on the submenu. However, that doesn't seem to make any difference once the process is complete.

There is an option for a dubbed English soundtrack but just sounds wrong.

The film is in Mandarin, with the option to watch it in a very distracting dubbed English version. However, I would prefer to have English subtitles.

I have selected the English subtitles from the submenu, however, nothing seems to happen with the subtitles.

The film is in Mandarin, so normally watch with English subtitles. (Although the disc does have an option for a dubbed version)

I select the subtitles from the submenu but nothing is available once the process is complete.

What are you using to play the MKV file? A lot of older players do not support Bluray subtitles. Even some new ones - the Win10 "movie and TV app" apparently does not.

I am trying to rip a DVD and use window 10.

I have tried playing it in the basic "film and tv player", "Windows media player" and "cyberlink media suite" none of them display subtitles.

Some of the common players that many use, all of which support subtitles, are MPC-HC, MPV or VLC.

All of the media players that I use can play the subtitles straight from the DVD.

My problem is after I have ripped the film (with the subtitle option ticked) They can't find the subtitle file to play. How do I get the subtitles off the DVD?

The players you mention are really mostly designed for playing physical discs.

All of the free software players I mention are very standard for file playback and fully support the MKV format. Try one of them.

If you want to download subtitles instead of just using the real subtitles contained within the MKV file, that is a different topic. Use Google to find websites offering subtitle downloads.

Downloaded VLC and it can access subtitles - thank you.

It is rather curious that other players can't.
