Vista 64: No usable optical drive

Post by erich »

When I open Make MKV with logging enabled I get the following:
FAILURE: Code 3221225488 at )UY,~n7mb(PpEB:213130927
FAILURE: Code 3221225488 at )UY,~n7mb(PpEB:213130927
FAILURE: Code 3221225488 at I{!%m`RHk+}^5>0%:121263015
FAILURE: Code 0 at I{!%m`RHk+}^5>0%:29394597
FAILURE: Code 0 at i%znb{5[`8}5I&OWsRQ21^{Yyu:29393516
The program can't find any usable optical drives. The BETA version requires administrative privileges for drive access.
I have looked at my BIOS settings and find no settings related AHCI.
I have looked in the Device Manager in Vista and found no settings related to AHCI.

I am running on an HP Laptop with Vista 64. According to device manager it has an Optiarc BD ROM BC-5500S ATA device

the error is very confusing. is it internal or usb drive? the error says that optical drive is not an MMC drive - something really strange.

Hello Mike I also have exactly the same issue using vista home premium on laptop and a HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-U20N drive cannot cut and paste the error log but it's the same as Eric's. Please can you tell me if you are aware of this problem if so is there a fix other than ripping the contents of a dvd to disc first.

I am getting the same error. Vista 64, Dell Studio 17, Optiarc DVDRWBD BC-5600S ATA Device. I am logged in as an admin plus I have tried to Run As Administrator and receive the same results.

I can manually point the program to the files on the drive and so far it has started to rip the movie. I'll try to post whether it finishes or not and what kind of results I get. I'm still not sure why it doesn't recognize that I have a drive or not.
