I'm setting up a new Mac Studio and lazily Googled MakeMKV to get the download and clicked on the first link, which took me here:

https://www.makemkv.net/download/

My first thought was "Cool, they updated their logo and look". I downloaded it, then my brain kicked in and noticed the .net instead of the .com.

So what is this .net site download? Malware I'm assuming, but has anyone dug into this? Maybe tried to get them kicked off their web host?

Looking at the site, it looks crooked to me. There is no Mac version, just a "browser extension" version. The "old versions" links do not act at all like the normal download.

Indeed, but it ranks higher than MakeMKV.com in search results! Some people are going to be tricked unfortunately if they are not paying attention.

Oh wait...<checks again> damn it, I was using Bing. It's fine in Google and DuckDuckGo. Less of an issue then thankfully.

Well, if it's Bing, it has to be right, right?

Not much Mike can do about it, unfortunately. We'll have to live with the ".com" bias, and hope for the best.
