ASUS BW-16D1HT reported successfully flashed but nothing really happened

Post by RandomSelf »

Greetings everyone,

I have an ASUS BW-16D1HT manufactured in September 2023 and loaded with firmware 3.11 and would like to backup UHD discs with it.

Code: Select all

Manufacturer: ASUS
Product: BW-16D1HT
Revision: 3.11
Serial number: <SERIAL NUMBER EDITED OUT>
Firmware date: 2120-12-01 17:59
Bus encryption flags: 1F
Highest AACS version: 76

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: MT1959

My Mac runs OSX 14.4.1 and does return my drive firmware details as 3.11.

Code: Select all

XXX@Mac-mini-de-XXX ~ % cd /Applications/MakeMKV.app/Contents/MacOS
XXX@Mac-mini-de-XXX MacOS % ./makemkvcon f -l
Found 1 drives(s)
00: /IOBDServices/4792F8AA
  ASUS_BW-16D1HT_3.11_212012011759_KLRN9D94711

I have attempted to flash the FW to the 3.10MK provided within the mk-firmware-pack-20200720.
It seems to me the system reports the flashing process to be successful.

Code: Select all

XXX@Mac-mini-de-XXX MacOS % ./makemkvcon f -d '/IOBDServices/4792F8AA' -f /tmp/sdf.bin rawflash main -i /tmp/ASUS-BW-16D1HT-3.10-WM01601-211901041014.bin

Reading input file /tmp/ASUS-BW-16D1HT-3.10-WM01601-211901041014.bin
Flashing flags = 0x0 : 0 0 0 0 : ---- ---- ---- ----
Current Drive ID: ASUS_BW-16D1HT_3.11_212012011759_KLRN9D94711
Ready to write drive flash memory.
Type "yes" to continue, "no" to abort
yes
Operation started: Sending flash image to drive
 100% Operation finished
Operation started: Programming flash
 100% Operation finished
Done successfully

But it also weirdly seems like it had no effect on the drive firmware which is stuck to the original FW.

Code: Select all

XXX@Mac-mini-de-XXX MacOS % ./makemkvcon f -l
Found 1 drives(s)
00: /IOBDServices/4792F8AA
  ASUS_BW-16D1HT_3.11_212012011759_KLRN9D94711

Since the MakeMKV opening window returns the same details than prior to the flashing attempt and my drive is unable to recognize UHD, I have to admit I am missing out something ; but have no idea what it is.

Thanks in advanced for any help you could provide me with.

Best regards

Thanks a lot billycar for having taken the time to answer my question.

All apologies. I feel so *stupid*. I was so sure that my model was not on the encrypted list.

It now sees one of my four brand new UHD discs. It won't extract it anyway and the application provided me with a *.tgz file that I'll send to svq asap.

I'll have to read through the forum a bit and maybe post another message in a few days.

Best regards
