How to transfer DVDs to my Mac?

Post by benilzha3 »

I'm trying to digitize my DVD collection since I have 300+ movies. I used to use Handbrake a long time ago, but after downloading the latest update last night, it seems it no longer works because it'll either tell me that all of my movies are copy-protected or that there's no valid source to be found. Are there any (preferably free) softwares that are similar to Handbrake?

Also, my MBP doesn't have a disk drive, so I've been using my iMac as a Remote Disc. Is this the best way to do this, or should I just suck it up and get an external DVD drive?

Step one: Download MakeMKV for Mac.
Step two: Install it.
Step three: Rip disks.

Handbrake has not supported dealing with copy-protected disks for almost 12 years now. People keep trying to force it to, using 3rd-party libraries, but that doesn't work 100%.

The output from MakeMKV is normally MKV files, which handbrake works well with. And, if your drive supports it, you can also do Bluray and UHD disks, which handbrake has never supported directly.
