Runnig slow/stuck?

Post by Kerabobera »

This is only day 2 of me using makemkv, and I'm a complete newb.I'm trying to load my Psych series DVDs onto my Plex server. I've done 12 discs so far, and now disc 13 is taking a long time, and seems to be stuck? This is a brand new disc, has no scratches. I tried another disc, and it also was very slow. I also tried restarting my computer. Can anyone help and explain to me like I'm 5? Thanks

Is your drive internal to your computer? If so, you could try powering off your computer for a minute or two then powering it on again. If the drive is in an external enclosure, turn it off, then back on.

Inside your drive there's a very tiny computer that runs the optical drive firmware. Firmware, like all software, has bugs in it. Sometimes the best way to help an optical drive is to reboot it. The only way to do that is to remove power. Rebooting a computer typically doesn't really remove power, hence the need to power off your computer if the drive is internal.

I have no idea if that'll help you, but it might.

it might also be that the disc in question is dirty or problematic in some way.
