Questions about DVD and Blu-ray menus and "extras"

Post by bigreddo »

Is it possible to figure out what are the menu choices on a DVD image or a Blu-ray image?
Meaning, how to figure out what all those video "extras" are?

--- How to do this for DVD images?
In a copy of the DVD files, in the Video_TS folder, there can be many files VTS_<nnn>.vob
Some of those files will be for the main movie.
Some of those files will be for "extras" like interviews with the cast and/or director.
A physical DVD would show the title of those extras in a DVD player.
How can I get to see the title of those extras from the copy of the DVD files?

--- How to do this for Blu-ray images?
In a copy of the Blu-ray files, in the STREAM folder, there can be many m2ts files.
Some of those files will be for the main movie.
Some of those files will be for "extras" like interviews with the cast and/or director.
A physical Blu-raa would show the title of those extras in a Blu-ray player.
How can I get to see the title of those extras from the copy of the Blu-ray files?

If the menus and extras are important, doing a "backup" of a BD is your best bet. There is no equivalent function in MakeMKV for DVDs, but you can create ISO files, which a lot of players can handle without external help.
