MakeMKV cuts first five minutes off of Born in East LA DVD

Post by sarpiedon »

I've been trying to Rip a Born in East LA DVD that I got at Target for 5 bucks.

However, every time I try, MakeMKV cuts the first 5 minutes off the movie (everything before the opening credits).

I'm not sure what is causing the issue. I suspect it is an issue with the files on the DVD or a weird encryption.

The other method I've tried (DVD Decrypter/Handbrake), fails to even create a viable file for the movie (Though the Trailer and a Studio logo clip process correctly)

I do receive some warnings about audio synchronization and Drive speed. and I have attached the log file to the post.

Apparently, I solved my own problem.

I was able to open the DVD in Manual mode used the notation "1:1-19"
the main movie seemed to Rip just fine after that.

I'm having the same problem you were having back in January. No matter how many times I've tried, MakeMKV cuts off the first few minutes of Born in East LA. I noticed you mentioned that you opened the DVD in manual mode. I can't seem to find this option in MakeMKV. Would you mind sharing instructions on what steps (specifically) I need to take to use the same solution you did? Thank you.

Insert disk in drive. After the big icon stops spinning, either check the box above the big button to "Open DVD manually" before you click the big icon, or go to the File menu, "Open DVD files manually".

After MakeMKV does an initial read of the disk, another dialog box will open up to ask you for the manual parameters.

I've been looking for that "manual mode" and don't see either of the things you mentioned. I'm on 1.12.3. Has it been removed?

Manual Mode is in the File menu, as "Open DVD Files Manually". It will work for a physical DVD, a DVD ISO file, or a "DVD file structure" (DVD file contents copied to a hard drive)
