Have tried in both internal drive and external buffalo station.
Original commercial disk - plays fine in VLC and DVD Player.

And there came 1.6.0 
Not sure if it can read the whole disk - reading a complex VOBU as I write so we'll have to wait a bit - but now it doesn't immediately throw a Can't open disc
