Burn a 4k file… with or without HDR….to 25gb/50gb bd-r disc ?
Is this even possible with a standard blu-ray writer and playback

If it will fit on the disk, why would it not be possible?
Without special formatting, you aren't going to get the BDR to act like a commercial BD, but there is no reason you cannot write a 4K file to a suitable size recordable BD. And play it back, too, AS A FILE.

Is there even any (affordable) software that could author an UltraHD Blu-ray Disc? I know there are 100 GB BD-R XL discs, but I guess I don't know if any legit players would accept it them as "real" UHD discs...
