I had a BW-16D1ht feb2014 , that would not even read UHD discs. So I purchased a pioneer BDR-S11j_BK, which now reads the discs but MAKEMKV does not work on UHD discs.

Normal blu ray are fine.

Tried Batman vs Superman

failed
Error 'Scsi error - ILLEGAL REQUEST:CANNOT WRITE MEDIUM - INCOMPATIBLE FORMAT' occurred while issuing SCSI command A30..0020..03F to device 'SPTI:\Device\CdRom0'

Tried Spiderman - homecoming

Drive Information
OS device name: \Device\CdRom0
Current profile: BD-ROM
Manufacturer: PIONEER
Product: BD-RW BDR-S11
Revision: 1.02
Serial number: QFDL002315WL
Bus encryption flags: 1B
Highest AACS version: 61

Disc Information
Label: SPIDER_MAN_HOMECOMING
Timestamp: 2017-08-22 01:05:43
Data capacity: 57.25 Gb
Disc type: BD-ROM UHD
Number of layers: 2
Bus encryption flags: 80

Failed
Error 'Scsi error - ILLEGAL REQUEST:CANNOT WRITE MEDIUM - INCOMPATIBLE FORMAT' occurred while issuing SCSI command A30..0020..03F to device 'SPTI:\Device\CdRom0'

Is this an encryption problem as these discs have not been cracked yet ???

Was my BW-16D1ht too old to recongise UHD (hardware issue).

Can anyone help what is my way forward to mkv UHD discs.
What is your firmware on your Asus? I think you need to be on 3.00. I bought mine and it is from 12/16 and it came with firmware 3.00. Check out this topic http://makemkv.com/forum2/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=16885

Hi all!

What is wrong with the LG BP55EB40 BDXL-writer?
It can not read any UHD disc, however is supposed to be BDXL compatible.
Mine says
SVC code: EB40
ROM VER: 1.0

The relevant information from that post is here:

OS device name: \Device\CdRom0
Current profile: BD-ROM
Manufacturer: PIONEER
Product: BD-RW BDR-S11
Revision: 1.02

That does not look like an ASUS drive and is, as far as I know, not a UHD friendly drive.

No - those look like official UHD drives, which will not work for ripping. Read the first post of this thread for information and the list of drives that will allow UHD ripping.

Fox has ignored my request for a replacement disc (shocker, I know). So I'm going to try to rent a copy of Deadpool and see if it backs up correctly. Interestingly enough, I read a ton of people in the Xbox One S forums having issues playing back discs created in late 2016, which is when my was purchased. We'll see if the rental has better luck.
Got my UHD Deadpool rental from 3D-blurayrental.com and it ripped perfectly. Guess I bought a bum Deadpool disc back in 2016... Odd, but it happens as folks here have commented. Just FYI guys.

I purchased this drive and backed up my "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" without issue after following the procedure on how to do it:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00E7B08MS/

It arrived with firmware rev-1.02

Of course I can't guarantee that any subsequent drives they ship would be identical, but it worked for me.

No Disc Inserted
LG BH16NS40. 2013 09 24. ROM VER 1.01. Manufactured September 2013. Does not have the magic SVC code on the label.

Code: Select all

Drive Information
OS device name: D:
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE BH16NS40
Revision: 1.01
Serial number: K93D9P84325
Firmware date: 2113-04-04 22:50:
Bus encryption flags: 17
Highest AACS version: 63
I'll see about getting my hands on a "SVC code: NS50" version or maybe a BH16NS55.

Decided to buy a second ASUS BW-16D1HT for peace of mind.

First one was Dec 2016 3.00. New one is Jan 2017 3.00, and is also working just fine.

My regular Blu-ray drive for ripping, an LG GGC-H20L, is still running happily since 2008!

I'm using external case, is it worthwhile to plug it into a USB 3 port or is USB 2 fast enough?

Only if the external drive has a USB 3.0 port.
