Re: Lincoln

Hey, Lincoln Region 2 Blu-ray lists half a dozen titles, seemingly the same. Which one should I choose in these scenarios? I just picked a random one when I ripped mine and ended up with one where Spielberg starts the introduction with something like 'Hello Japan' - my guess is that the only differ...

Re: Ubuntu 12.04.3 64Bit makemkv-oss-1.8.7 ./configure fails

1.8.6 installed fine and ran fine on my system. 1.8.7 wil not install. ./configure bash: ./configure: Permission denied Do not run configure with sudo - if you get a permission denied then something has already gone wrong. Potentially if you have used sudo when extracting the tarballs. I have just ...

Re: bought makemkv and now might have to reinstall linux...

Hi i bought a makemkv key and now i might have to reinstall my linux setup, so what do i have to do to keep my key after reinstallation? Personally, I always back up the ~/.MakeMKV folder, and restore that after a reinstall. You don't need the entire folder, but only the *.conf files therein. I am ...

Re: how do you update makemkv on linux?

how do you update makemkv on linux? Just download the new tarballs, extract, make, install... i.e. same instructions as when you did the original install - except you may want to double check the dependencies listed on the build page to ensure you have all dependencies for the new version available.

ffmpeg or avconv. I use avconv for all non-mkv to mkv conversions.

Re: error message ubuntu 12.04lts

That is because you misunderstood the command to use - i.e. it is not two lines but rather a single long "sudo apt-get install" command: You should have use: sudo apt-get install build-essential libc6-dev libssl-dev libexpat1-dev libgl1-mesa-dev libqt4-dev All on a single line. You can spl...

Re: VobSub

You get VobSub subtitles from DVDs but PGS subtitles from blu rays.
In order to use either on my Samsung TV, I convert to SRT; which unfortunately is a semi-manual process.

Re: Blu Ray possible?

I can only really speak for my own USB drive, which is an LG super multi blue. I have not had any problems with it (other than some kernel versions freezing when attaching it with eSATA cable rather than USB, but no issues when using USB cable). I have read in other forums that LG drives supposedly ...

(Sorry for potential duplicate response - but posted a link in previous response and it's waiting on moderator). Anyway. Just wanted to ensure that you read the thread "MakeMKV has stopped being able to open Blu-Ray discs", and confirm that you are using the latest version of MakeMKV (curr...

Re: Blu Ray possible?

A USB drive works fine with MakeMKV (I have both an internal and external USB blu ray drive). However, before you run off and get yourself a new drive, please check the thread "MakeMKV has stopped being able to open Blu-Ray discs" (viewtopic.php?f=8&t=5847) - if you have had a new blu ...

Re: Blu Ray possible?

Sounds like the drive doesn't recognise the blu ray disk as a valid disk - what blu ray drive do you have in your laptop?

Re: Blu Ray possible?

You shouldn't need anything other than MakeMKV - I use MakeMKV under Ubuntu, and cannot play blu rays through VLC either; but have no problem using MakeMKV to create MKV copies of blu ray disks. Once MakeMKV has been started and you put a blu ray disk in the drive, what output do you see in MakeMKV?...

Re: MakeMKV doesn't compile under kubuntu 12.10

I cannot spot what's wrong but for what it's worth, I compile it no problem under 12.10 (64 bit), so it's not an issue with the MakeMKV files. I just recompiled to be sure that no issue has been introduced by a more recent update to 12.10 - but MakeMKV compiles fine using gcc 4.7.2-2ubuntu1. Maybe t...

Re: Installing MakeMKV on Ubuntu

To unpack the tarball you need to use the tar command. The file extension(s) ".tar.gz" means that it's a tar file that has been compressed - to extract the files for 1.7.9, simply go to the directory where you downloaded the files and issue the commands: tar xvzf makemkv-oss-1.7.9.tar.gz t...

Re: Hardware considerations for MakeMKV ?

Personally, I've had experience with two blu ray drives under Linux - first an external LG Super Multi Blue burner, and then an internal Samsung SH-B123L. I cannot vouch for the LG drive and MakeMKV compatibility since I didn't discover MakeMKV until after getting the Samsung drive, and don't really...
