Re: Ultimate UHD Drives Guide Updated 2019

Not at all. That last post could be very helpful indeed. If Passkey will work - that's fine. I did flash the BU40N to the MK 1.03 first, and then to 1.00. That allowed me to rip 4K discs. If I can crossflash to BU10 and make it PassKey compatible, that would be ideal. 1.00 works with dvdfab no need...

Re: Looking to buy laptop w/ compatible optical drive that can play 4K UHD blu rays (playback only)

Like what Woodstock and BillyCar11 stated, there are hardware strict requirements to playback 4K UHD movies. You can check out this article on setting up a PC home theater for 4K https://www.anandtech.com/show/12171/a-budget-home-theater-pc-setup-4k-hdr-uhd-bluray-and-more For the optical drive, th...

Re: Looking to buy laptop w/ compatible optical drive that can play 4K UHD blu rays (playback only)

Hey Guys, I am struggling to put a laptop together that can play 4k UHD blu rays. I understand that I'll need an external optical drive and PowerDVD ultra. I have no plans to rip or write, only playback. i got your email i will just respond here. the reason no one can give you an answer is because ...

Re: Ultimate UHD Drives Guide Updated 2019

Yeah I’ll be flashing it on a VM. What are the drawbacks between these two drives, outside of cost? LG WH16NS60, UHD Official Internal 5.25 LG BU40N, UHD Official Internal Slim Sata 9.5mm Are their speeds the same or is the NS60 the best one? I’d prefer the slim one for portability and it’s a bit c...

Re: Ultimate UHD Drives Guide Updated 2019

Hey all -- Thanks to those that created this guide and have continually contributed. I think I've settled on a drive but I wanted to get a real-time check on it to see if there was something that I needed to know before I buy it. I have MacBook Pros at home and I'm looking at getting the "LG BU40N,...

Re: "automatic sdf downloading is disabled or failed" while decrypting

Clearly detailed? Whole lot of posts now, but agree need to surf them. I'm not an IT guy, where would the clear instruction be to update my settings? Is this safe? Why is this necessary when last week all was fine? Was something black listed by providers? Thanks anyway.. BtW, thanks to Billycar11, ...

Re: AACS2 O/C v65

Just to be clear and referring to my post on ASUS 16X. Upgrading older drives manufactured after April 2019 will not work consistently with new encryption regardless of whatever FW you use. I Have run extensive tests supporting this. LG / ASUS are clearly upgrading their Laser HW to meet new encryp...

Re: Ironman 1/2/3 Boxset - error after 15-20GB when ripping the UHD disks

I looked at them under light and different angles. No scratches, no nothing. Clean, clear & shiny. Also.... if they would be dirty or broken wouldn't the rip then stop at the same location? because it does not. At every rip attempt makeMKV rips largely different amounts of data for the main movie. ...

Re: Best UHD Friendly Drive to Flash To?

Please let me know, craigr probably not but it might but back when makemkv didnt official support ns60s you could get a non ns60 cross flashed to an ns60 firmware and it would ...

Re: Proper UHD Drive Test Procedures and Software

 I do use MakeMKV but just for DVD file uncompressed. I use the other, ahem, brand from our friends in Asia to backup compressed MKV;s to save drive space. Handbrake /others are flakey in my experience and tend to be riddled with Malware. Ill give it ago with MakeMKV. Do you do a folder backup...

Re: Best UHD Friendly Drive to Flash To?

So I did some experimenting and also picked up a WH14NS40 NS50 today. I first flashed the WH14NS40 to ASUS BH16D1HT 3.10-MK and then ripped an ISO of a small single layer UHD disc using AnyDVD. The time to rip the ISO with the ASUS firmware was 626 seconds. I then ripped the same disc in the WH16NS...
