Re: HDR issue with Fast X UHD

Never mind ... the problem seems to have resolved itself somehow. Grrr ... I do not like it when that happens.

Sorry for the noise.

HDR issue with Fast X UHD

I've ripped and played HDR 4K UHD discs before with Windows 10 and Kodi. However, I recently purchased Fast X, ripped it and the playback was just wrong - the picture was way too dark. I went into the Kodi settings to turn off HDR and the rip then played fine in terms of picture quality but clearly ...

Re: Ripping Dolby Atmos into MKV

Kodi 19 now has a fix written and merged into the codebase: https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/20361 to resolve problems it was having with TrueHD. That should be available in the nightly builds now. Not sure how long it will take for a new "dot" release to be made that incorporates this. ...

Re: Ripping Dolby Atmos into MKV

This “FIX” will NOT solve the dropout issue in KODI! KODI’s issue is a hard coded max bitrate value. Just a FYI Just FYI ... Re: Ripping Dolby Atmos into MKV

For anyone else who uses Kodi, I found a discussion thread on forum.kodi.tv about the issue: https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=347674 To be fair to the Kodi developers, it doesn't read like they are ignoring the issue - they just don't have the resources to get it fixed and are more than ope...

Re: Ripping Dolby Atmos into MKV

This “FIX” will NOT solve the dropout issue in KODI! KODI’s issue is a hard coded max bitrate value. Just a FYI Is that still the case with Kodi v19 (Matrix)? Is there any workaround/solution? Is there a way to tell if a particular disc is affected by this? Is there a Kodi forum post that reference...

Re: Incredibles 2

In this instance, I had no issues ripping Incredibles 2...once I figured out which of the 3 titles MakeMKV listed was the correct one. How did you figure this out? Each title is showing a slightly different segment map but I have no idea what the actual difference would be between the three version...

Re: Playing back UHD rips on Windows 10

Since posting, other research I've done suggests that smooth UHD playback pretty much requires hardware support for HEVC (the video compression used by UHD). I only have a partial understanding of when Intel have started adding this and, in some situations, it appears to be a partial implementation ...

Playing back UHD rips on Windows 10

I've got a 2015 NUC which I think is too old, hardware-wise, to properly play back UHD rips when connected to otherwise appropriate display hardware (i.e. new Denon AV amp and new Samsung UHD TV). The reason I say this is because everything I've read about correct HDR playback suggests that HDMI 2.0...

Re: Forced subtitles - flag not being set in MKV file?

Curiously, in my default.mmcp.xml file, I also have: ignoreForcedSubtitlesFlag="true" I'm not at all sure what this is supposed to mean! Setting that to "false" and re-doing the conversion results in my second request being fulfilled, namely that the forced subtitles track creat...

Re: Forced subtitles - flag not being set in MKV file?

Do you mean, the forced track is muxed twice into the MKV? I think I have seen this before. Yes, that's what I mean. The MIGP Blu-ray has three subtitle tracks. The MKV created by MakeMKV has four subtitle tracks. #3 & #4 are identical. The corresponding track in the MKV files does not have the...

Re: Forced subtitles - flag not being set in MKV file?

I've just done some testing with another Blu-ray - Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. This disc has three English subtitle tracks, the third of which is the forced subtitles track. Unlike The Avengers, the forced subtitles track on MIGP does have the forced attribute on each subtitle. There are two...

Re: Forced subtitles - flag not being set in MKV file?

I am now as certain as I can be that the 3rd subtitle track on the Avengers Blu-ray, despite definitely containing the "forced" subtitles, doesn't have the forced flag set on any of the subtitles. This would explain why MakeMKV isn't doing anything special with that track and why Kodi does...

Re: Forced subtitles - flag not being set in MKV file?

OK ... I'm sharing my findings as I do the research into the subtitles on The Avengers. One of the reasons for picking this Blu-Ray is because there are a number of forum posts on the Kodi forums as well about it so I want to really get to the bottom of this ... According to tsMuxeR, for 00800.m2ts ...
