What Device Rips 4K HDR Blu-rays

QUESTION: What devices are capable of ripping 4K HDR Blu-rays into an MKV format? For example, I use an LG external Blu-ray device that connects to my Windows 10 laptop via USB in order to rip the 1080p Blu-rays and DVDs. But, that LG device is not compatible with 4K UHD Blu-ray discs. Another examp...

Re: Subtitles from MKV and Burning In

I don't have any experience with MPC-BE or MPC-HC; I use Plex. In my .mkv files for the forced subtitle track, I set both the default flag and the forced flag to true. Plex seems to pick this up correctly and plays the forced track automatically. As such, this avoids the problems with burned in sub...

Subtitles from MKV and Burning In

There are many movies where the Subtitles need to be turned On in order to have them seen. I don't like doing this, though. Some of the players such as MPC-BE and MPC-HC don't even recognize "Default" Tracks that are supposed to be "Forced" On "automatically." As a resu...

Shin Godzilla Subtitles and Godzilla vs Destroya Question

I have a question about the Blu-ray called "Shin Godzilla." I also have a question about the Blu-ray called "Godzilla vs Destroyah." I usually like to "Burn In" the Subtitles so then the subtitles don't need to be turned on. VLC may turn on certain subtitles automatical...

Re: Shazam 2 - Fury of the Gods - Audio Bitrate Question

The lossless formats, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA , include a 'core' lossy audio track. Theoretically players that can't understand the lossless formats will be able to find and understand the older and more widely supported lossy core formats. MakeMKV separates the lossless format from its lossy co...

Shazam 2 - Fury of the Gods - Audio Bitrate Question

In Shazam 2: Fury of the Gods, the first audio track is the default Audio track - the lossless Dolby TrueHD Atmos 7.1. There is no confusion about this. There is also no confusion regarding the fourth Audio Track - the Dolby Digital 5.1 Commentary that has a bitrate of 640kbs. This fourth Audio Trac...

Re: Concern with v 1.17.4

do you own makemkv or are you using the beta key thats expired and has not been renewed yet? I'm trying to help a friend of mine. It is the first time downloading makemkv on that computer. The "Beta" on this website says it only lasts until the end of "May." But, my friend thoug...

Concern with v 1.17.4

I just downloaded the newest version, which is 1.17.4. But I'm not getting a message saying it won't work for some reason. Is anyone else getting this message?

Re: Subtitles

In playing around with VLC 3.0.14 (Mac, Intel) today I found that it showed which ever subtitle track was set to Forced or Forced & Default. I was experimenting with a movie that had two subtitle tracks. It didn't matter if it was track 1 or track 2. I've never used MPC-BE or MPC-HC. Can you ve...

Re: Subtitles

In addition to the "forced" flag, I've found that some players rely on the "default" flag as well. I put together a short batch file that sets both, but I only run it AFTER I run the file through handbrake, and make sure that the subtitles are in the "correct order" fo...

Re: Subtitles

Worth noting that if you don’t want to re-encode with Handbrake, you can change the order with a remux in MKVToolNix. You can also change the order before ripping in MakeMKV by changing the order weight for the track. How do you use MakeMKV to "change the order weight for the track" with ...

Subtitles

Usually there are movies where the Subtitles are "Hardcoded" into the MKV files. But, there are still plenty of movies where you need to turn the Subtitles "On" with some form of "Forced" or "Alternate" selection for the Subtitles. For those movies with "...

Re: Question about Speed of DVD Ripping

because the limiting factor is not the connection type its the slow discs I realize DVD discs are "slower" than Blu-ray discs in terms of the transfer rate of data. I'm just a bit confused why the 3.8GB discs (presumably single-layer discs) saw an increase in speed when using USB 3.0, whi...

Question about Speed of DVD Ripping

I have been using an external Blu-ray drive to rip DVDs and Blu-rays with an older laptop using a USB 2.0 input. I was spending quite a bit of time ripping a boxed set I have of DVDs. Each "season" of DVDs has five DVDs that are dual-layer 7 GB discs. And each "season" of DVDs ha...
