Re: Two Suggestions...

For suggestion 2, try right-clicking on the left-side menu, and select "Unselect all". For suggestion 1, the title length is available in the "Info" section, under "Title information". It isn't part of the left-hand menu, because it's from reading a different portion o...

Re: No Disc Backup for HD-DVDs?

Doesn't MakeMKV support de-crypted Disc Backups of HD-DVDs? The Backup button is greyed out if I insert an HD-DVD (tested with several discs). Since MakeMKV still has an issue with HD-DVD subtitles (https://forum.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1905) you need the de-crypted backup to extract them...

Re: Error Handling ideas for damaged media

i would love an option within makemkv where we could read the errored sectors from a secondary medium, say i have 2 identical dvds / brs / 4k etc, but they have both been damaged in seperate ways, neither will rip on its own, however, the read errors occur on a different sector so if i can somehow ...

Re: Error Handling ideas for damaged media

you want ddrescue to image the DVD (perhaps with needing libdvdcss to authenticate drive to disc), one can then generally brute force decrupt the CSS protected DVD (dvd decrypter can do this with proper settings). (generally, as small VOBs can't be decrypted, but they are generally not needed to be ...

Re: Optical Drive External Enclosures

one doesn't need an enclosure for a 5.25" drive. there's a usb->sata cables (with external power) that work with optical drives (though note, not all do, some just provide a hdd interface). can just connect it as needed (or leave always connected, but I haven't tried that. In general an optical...

Re: Mkv backup to iso?

makemkv doesn't remove java protections (or hdmv region coding), so if the disc has java protections, it likely wont work if one just burns it to an ISO.

Re: Track listing is different between backup and opening the disc

i believe the reasoning is due to the order of the files in the directory. When reading a disc directly, you get the files ordered as they are on the UDF file system that is the bluray. When you work from a backup, you are getting the files in whatever order your system's filesystem provides them yo...

Re: Encrypted files -> Decrypted files?

old thread, but for libredrive compatible drives, one can have makemkv running, insert a disc, libredrive will be inserted and then do a raw copy of the disc. As libredrive prevents bus encryption from occuring. This is useful if one wants to make a playable ISO and there are java protections, anydv...

Re: Hobbit high frame rate

Old thread, but there will never be a 4K UHD Bluray 48fps hobbit release, as the 4k standard does not allow 48fps content. If a future standard would, it be incompatible with all existing drives and players.

makemkv marks first subtitle default, it probably shouldn't do this automatically

as the subject says, if one selects 1 or more subtitles, makemkv sets the first one in its order (per priority) with the default flag set on it. This means that players that respect the default flag (say vlc) will automatically display it and require the user to disable it if they don't want the to ...

Re: Question: Using two drives to backup a disc

just use ddrescue with the drive that can read it. and let it run continiously till you see that for days it cant copy any new data. i.e. 1) insert disc 2) run makemkv to insert libredrive to disable bus encruption. 3) image with ddrescue. when you get 100% data copied, can do the disc discatt.dat t...

Re: Preview, please!

while makemkv could include it, its not fully in scope of what makemkv is. a preview expands the scope, and while it might be useful, the author might not want to spend his time on it.

it's as simple as that.

Re: What Backend/Frontend Encoder Do You Use?

i mostly use plex for that. Yes, that requires being online, but that's generally not been a problem, and if I'm going offline for an extended period of time, I just load up a HD. Also, not all storage has to be kept online at all times. At the end of the day, the time it sets to set up an encode /...
