Solved the problem by getting a new drive. LG BP50NB40. Works like a charm. Got read speeds around 3x to 4x.

Very slow reads on blu-rays
I'm running High Sierra Beta and getting VERY slow read speeds on any disk (tops out at 22.2 K/s). The "analyzing seamless segments" takes about 20 minutes, then it creates the MKV at about the same speed. The drive is a Matshita UJ-210S 1.00d. It's using direct access mode. I get Error 'S...
