Re: Question about ripping DolbyVision and playing it
Woa woa woa. I never said CloneBD will keep the Dolby Vision video track in an MKV container. It most definitely WON'T. MakeMKV will but only if you use it to make the MKV. So this is not going to work. Sorry I missed this. So If I do a backup with MakeMKV, use CloneDB to identify what files to use...

Re: Question about ripping DolbyVision and playing it
Sorry I mean MP4!
I am just about to run it through CloneDB now but not sure what audio to select... which is best quality:
AAC Advanced Audio Codec?
Or
Dolby Digital AC3?
Thanks

Re: Question about ripping DolbyVision and playing it
I didn't even realise there was a "backup" button, thanks! It's backing up now and then I'll run it through CloneBD. Hopefully this time everything will work and i'll have a process to back everything up and it's not too big or takes too long each disk. My drives are m.2 SSD drives and ver...

Re: Question about ripping DolbyVision and playing it
I presume you knew this question was coming (😂) but it says it backs up ‘unprotected’ blu-rays and you say you use MakeMVK to decryt it.
So do you simply use MakeMKV to backup the whole disc to an MKV then run it through Clonebd? Or a different process?

Re: Question about ripping DolbyVision and playing it
I see it says it at the bottom of the details... However, how do I know which is the correct mpls file that gives me the info of which file I need to backup? There's 123 on the disc and I'm only finding audio information in each one so far, no video. Do I need to check each one manually to find the ...

Re: Question about ripping DolbyVision and playing it
Okay, so with the exception of it being 1920x1080 how is it identified as the dolby vision meta data? How do you know that's definitely it? And how do you know which m2ts file 00800mpls is embedded within to know which file you should be backing up?

Re: Question about ripping DolbyVision and playing it
Can you confirm it's always a 1080P track though and it can't be a 4K one?

Re: Question about ripping DolbyVision and playing it
Yeah there’s a LOT of tracks in there. So i’ll just rip the main first track then or do I rip the whole disk?
In fairness that thread is MASSIVE but i have read quite a bit!
Thanks pal!

Re: Question about ripping DolbyVision and playing it
That's what I'm saying, yes. When you create the MKV, just make sure the 1080p video track is selected to be included. It'll sit there unused and dormant, but, at least you'll have it so if they do figure out how to do it in MKV's later down the road, the data will be there ready to go. I'm trying ...

Re: Question about ripping DolbyVision and playing it
Alternately, you could keep full ISO rips on HDD. I use a USB 3.0 10TB drive (more like 9TiB) that I got for $150 from Best Buy for this purpose. I typically rip just the main movie only to MKV so having the ISO available if/when I want to watch extras or in case I ever need to re-rip is convenient...

Re: Question about ripping DolbyVision and playing it
So I have the option down the line if it becomes supported that I can either re-work the file into a future compliant standard? Or, re-ripp the disk into a future compliant standard? Is that what you are saying?
If yes, how do I ripp the Dolby Vision meta data into it with MakeMKV?

Re: Question about ripping DolbyVision and playing it
Just as we were about to test them, we have come to the conclusion (with a shed load of help from your good self 😉) that even if it does work we are still not going to be able to keep Dolby Vision with digital audio (at the moment until someone comes up with something). And As audio is more important to me with my setup than Dolby Vision it’s the way to go for me.
So i’m going to back them all up with MakeMkV, save myself a few quid on the software and if someone does come up with something down the line I can re-ripp just the Dolby Vision titles.
So on that note, thank you VERY much for all your help!
