Re: KEYDB.cfg, Disc Identifiers and MakeMKV dumps

Hello, Even if I'm not a huge user of MakeMKV, I was intrigued by your post. I do not have any KEY.cfg file (nor KEY.CFG or key.cfg) file on my computer. I do not know if this comes from the fact that I run this app under Liunux/Ubuntu or if this file is not needed by MakeMKV ? Maybe someone more kn...

Re: Are there white internal Blu-ray burners?

Hello, Optical drive makers used to sell their internal drives with both a black and a "grey" bezel. Depending on the make of the computer you owned, you put the bezel with the correct colour. I would either ask the maker for a properly coloured bezel Or find a dead drive from the same mak...

Re: How to burn a Blu-ray disc from a backup on Linux ?

I actually used : mkisofs -udf -iso-level "3" -input-charset "utf-8"-V <name of the disc> -allow-limited-size -o <name_of_file_to_create>.iso <source_directory> to generate the ISO file. Then I burned it to a BD using my favourite burning software. (I do not do it on the command ...

Dumb question ?

Hi !
I would like to know why it is not possible to extract a Blu-Ray disc into an ISO file in order to save it to storage and/or write it back on a Blu-Ray writable media as one can do for a DVD disc ?
Thanks in advance for enlightening me !

Re: Flashing Firmware for Blu-Ray Drive in Linux

Just a note that, reading DVDs, it isn't necessary to install patched firmware. The error you're getting is most likely a "bad" (dirty) sector of the disk. You really only need to change the firmware if you're going to be reading 4K UHD disks. Hello, I second this. All the errors I got re...

How to burn a Blu-ray disc from a backup on Linux ?

Hi Guys, I'm posting here because I do not know where to ask. I've a Blu-ray I love a lot and the disc id dying (a lot of medium errors in a computer drive and seizures in a "plain" player). Fortunately I've made a backup with Make MKV so I've got all the files I need. As the size is less ...

Re: DVD drive naming

Hello, As far as I can tell, MakeMKV does not name drives by itself. It takes the names given by the underlying OS. And the Linux kernel name the first DETECTED drive as /dev/sr0, the next detected one gets /dev/sr1, and so on. Modifying this behaviour to ensure that each drive is and stay the same ...

VLC snap and BD read

Hello Guys, On my Ubuntu laptop, I often read Blu Ray discs I get from the library. Fine. More and more apps are transitioning from .deb packages to snap. So I fear at some point they would remove the deb version entirely. I'm wondering if we will still be able to play Blu Ray discs using VLC as a s...

Re: Help please

Hello, IMHO, replacing the whole PCB is not a good solution. The old one has a memory in it (where the firmware is stored, amongst other things) and these information may pertain precisely to the mechanical part of the drive. Obviously, the other board from the other drive may not be so tuned to the...

Re: (Asmcom:) Pioneer UHD 4K Drives From £117.32, Cheap Shipping, Worldwide Service, Excellent Service!!!

Hello Asmcom, Are the prices in the first post of this thread current ? And do you have stock to sell ? My BU40N is starting to misbehave and I suspect it is dying. So I would have to buy a replacement.... And better to buy from someone knowing what it is selling and with a warranty it will work wit...
