Re: Hash File Fail - Partial Dump

The program's author, Mike, has talked about adding a feature like that, but hasn't done it yet as far as I know.

Re: DOlby Vision only shows as HDR and many newbie questions

Dolby Vision is a surprisingly complicated thing. It has a concept they call profiles. When you watch a streaming service that has Dolby Vision, that's a profile 5 kind of DV. Lots of TVs and streaming boxes can decode and display profile 5 Dolby Vision. A UHD with Dolby Vision is profile 7. Decodi...

Re: cannot load disc - 8k Ultradigital HD?

As el-nebu suggests, this appears to be a regular 1080p blu-ray. https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Baraka-Blu-ray/1055/

The 8K reference apparently refers to a restoration process.

Re: Can MakeMKV retain ALL streams, even those it thinks are "empty"?

It should work as Woodstock describes. However, I think it should be possible to make a decrypted backup of the DVD with MakeMKV, which will make a .iso file. I think that will be able to be opened in MKVToolNix GUI where you can make .mkv files of the movie with whatever audio & subtitle tracks...

Re: Drive flashing - Linux command line or Windows?

I've never flashed on Linux, but I have flashed using the command line on macOS. It's fine. As I understand it, SDFtool is just a GUI for the command line flash utility included with MakeMKV.

In the end, regardless of platform, we're all using the same flash utility.

Re: version expires?

If you buy MakeMKV it'll work without expiration. You can use it on any platform MakeMKV supports (Windows, macOS, or Linux). I purchased MakeMKV a few years ago and haven't had to update my license key since. The only reason I notice that the beta key has expired is because folks start complaining ...

Re: Ripping 4K UHD Disks

My ISP does not block my access and I was able to download new HKs earlier this week. My DNS is set to Cloudflare (1.1.1.1) On this forum, lots of Comcast/Xfinity customers have had upstream blocking problems that required either a VPN or turning off some kind of advanced security setting on their r...

Re: Suzume (2022) Bonus Disc Debug Code

Not necessarily true.I've had discs that gave me debug codes that ultimately successfully ripped with no error message, but were broken/corrupted during playback. Were they DVDs or a blu-ray? As I understand it, MakeMKV uses the content hash table that's part of the blu-ray specification to verify ...

Re: MakeMKV Fails to Open Discs on BRAND NEW DVD Discs

MakeMKV's only purpose is to copy the bits from an optical disc into a file on your computer. If you choose to make a backup, which creates a .iso file in the case of a DVD, or make a .mkv file directly from the disc, the outcome is the same; a 1-to-1 copy of what's the on the disc. It is only after...

Re: SDFtool Flasher

Thanks for the reply, @MartyMcNuts. I've never used Terminal, and I know you listed the commands at the top of the post, but is it possible to share more detailed per-step instructions with exactly what I need to type for each step? For example, I'm not sure how to interpret step 4: "copy sdf....

Re: Strange corruption issue - MakeMKV's fault or bad HDD?

It seems a lot of these third party PCIe USB expansion cards could be cheaply made junk prone to failure and corruption as well. Not sure I want to risk 2 years of archiving to some $30 PCB made to a price. Maybe I just have to get used to the idea of scanning everything with ffmpeg. Maybe that is ...

An ISO backup with makeMKV? Must have missed that feature.
Recent versions of MakeMKV added 'backup' functionality for DVDs. It makes a .iso file. Backups for blu-rays and UHDs still make a folder, not a .iso file.
