I'm looking for a 4k blu-ray player for my grandparents and need one that has no special frills and internet connections. I just want it to be exactly like a regular old DVD player: Pop in the disk, press play, and you're done. But I can't find one like that.. Any ideas? Panasonic UB420 (non DV) or...

Sure is, with a caveat - the DV in the file will only contain a single layer, ATM MakeMKV cannot do dual layer DV

Same here, so setup a MakeMKVDataDirectory folder on my C: drive and in the Preferences pointed to there. No issue ever since, updates .tar file without problems now and works every time.

Simple, just keep an old PC with MakeMKV on it and use an external drive that can be swapped between machines.

Quicker and easier to just play the disc in a DV enabled player, at least you get what the editors intended you to see.

Get a NAS, 2 bay or 4 bay, it does the RAID for you and once set up you can save & stream to your hearts content.

Use this setup, works for me.
Start MakeMKV
View -> Preferences (Opens MakeMKV Preferences box) -> Advanced
Set Output file name template to {NAME}{title:+DFLT}
Apply -> Close MakeMKV and reload
