Re: Asus BW-16D1HT 3.10 MK Question

Flashing with a windows flasher doesn't touch the encryption or calibration data, so, there was no need to use the data mover tool in that case. However, doing so had no impact on flashing.

Re: bu40n UltraHD drive may work, GTX 1060 and PowerDVD fails

Yea, HDR is not restricted to movies. There are plenty of HDR games out there now, so, pretty much any modern video card will support HDR. Windows has it built in. It's only when you try to play a protected UHD that the stupid SGX requirements kick in, and that's simply because of PowerDVD's licensi...

Re: bu40n UltraHD drive may work, GTX 1060 and PowerDVD fails

I agree, it really is a joke. I spent maybe an hour on it and gave up. I forced an install from the intel site and that didn't work. This was after the PowerDVD installed SGX didn't work, either. I was like "ok, enough of that". LOL

Re: bu40n UltraHD drive may work, GTX 1060 and PowerDVD fails

What do you mean by "explicit hdr?" I'm getting HDR just fine with my setup. But every TV, especially OLED has to tonemap given the low max NIT value (somewhere around 700). Most movies are mastered above this so you tonemap. I'm not losing any "explicit HDR" with using madvr's tonemapping as I'm st...

Re: bu40n UltraHD drive may work, GTX 1060 and PowerDVD fails

Don't know, never got it to work. Nor do I care, tbh. I use J River MC with madvr's exceptional tone mapping on my C8. PowerDVD was just me screwing around trying to get it to work since I got the 9900k. But after tons of SGX issues and whatnot, short of reinstalling Windows, it's not getting fixed ...

Re: bu40n UltraHD drive may work, GTX 1060 and PowerDVD fails

There are 2 DIFFERENT requirements depending on the TYPE of 4K you're playing. An official UHD MUST use the Intel graphics. And even with supported hardware, it doesn't always work as I can attest to with my brand new 9900k machine. The second is playing 4K files like an MKV. For that, the nVidia is...

Re: Problem with The Fifth Element 4K and LG BU40N

What do you mean by "heard anything"? It will just show up in the downloaded hashed keys at some point when it's supported. You won't get any notification so you just need to keep trying the disc and allowing MakeMKV to download from the update server.

Re: WH16NS40 old model bricked - N00b mistake :(

Yea, to be clear, you must extract your firmware that's on the drive now with dosflash to create a firmware bin. The data mover tool is then used to take the encryption and calibration data from that extracted firmware and move it into the clean, old firmware bin that you're trying to restore to the...

Re: WH16NS40 old model bricked - N00b mistake :(

No, it's posted here somewhere in one of the older threads. I think Marty or Billy provided the original firmware that needs to be used with the extracted firmware and the data mover tool. I don't have time to search for the thread which is why I didn't link to it, but, the information is here somew...

Re: WH16NS40 old model bricked - N00b mistake :(

The only time I've seen one of these drives saved is through some very painful work. It requires using dosflash to extract the current firmware, using the firmware mover tool to move the encryption data and calibration data to the proper firmware bin for the drive, and then flashing the new firmware...

Re: LG BH16NS55 Firmware 1.04 (and possibly other new drives)

Depends on what your goal is. That firmware works quite well so if you're just wanting MakeMKV LibreDrive support with no sleep bug or any other issue, then sure. But even the ASUS MK 3.10 is extremely good so you can stop there if you'd like.

That would bolster the case for automatically sending the dumps to mkv instead of having to email them. The current process works and updates usually take less than 48 hours after a dump is submitted. The key download process is already in place so we're half way there. Sent from my Pixel XL using T...

Re: WH14NS40 SVC - NS50 FIRMWARE 1.03

People know. :) But you have 2 choices. Use a Downgrade Enabled version to go back to 1.02. Or use the MK 1.03 version that restores UHD functionality. Either will work.
