Re: Official Dolby Vision MKV spec support

Not for this, no. This has been discussed ad nauseum but there's a lot of things that are required to make Dolby Vision playback work. 0) You need a decoder. We may be able to finagle that on a PC in some of the latest GPU drivers out there. Maybe 0) It's likely something like LAV Video would be nee...

Re: Official Dolby Vision MKV spec support

Very unlikely. The necessary chain does not exist on a PC.

Re: Ultimate UHD Drives Guide Updated 2020

Please don't. Leave your drive right where it is. Also, no need to downgrade MakeMKV, just use speed control to lower the max read speed for UHD, specifically triple layer. It should help. (You did say you're ripping mostly BD, so, you can control the speed of those, too, and lower it until you find...

Re: NEW OPTION: 'UHD Friendly' Firmware Downgrade / Cross-Flash Using Official (Modified) ASUS Flasher for ASUS & LG Dri

Because you have not read enough. You can't go directly to 1.00 from 1.02. I've followed the directions given by the OP. And it still doesn't change the fact that it will not flash at all. It fails even when attempting to go from the stock 1.02 to the 1.02 mk. Maybe you need to read a bit more. You...

Re: NEW OPTION: 'UHD Friendly' Firmware Downgrade / Cross-Flash Using Official (Modified) ASUS Flasher for ASUS & LG Dri

The front isn't what matters. It's the chipset within the drive. Those on the 1.xx firmware for the BW16D1HT are the older chipset and will brick if you try to flash them with the 3.xx firmware. They just don't work with UHD and never will.

I don't have a drive to test it on unfortunately.

Makemkv will tell you the drive info when you start it and select the drive. However if that drive has a 1.x firmware on it do not, I repeat, do not flash it. You will brick it.

Re: SDFtool Flasher

I need to add that to my tool as well. But I don't think it's super straight forward and potentially dangerous. I don't have a drive to test it on either. But we really should have that in your tool.

Re: Flashing the ASUS BW-16D1HT and or LG-BH16NS40

What do you mean and sorry for being totally stupid when you say (If it’s an NS40 drive, check it has service code NS50. If it’s an NS50, NS55, or NS60, there’s nothing to really check.) So I take it the SN50 NS55 & NS60 I dont have to look for those service codes so what about the rom version for ...

Re: Flashing the ASUS BW-16D1HT and or LG-BH16NS40

icourt pretty much summed it up perfectly. The only thing I'd add is that I recommend SDFTool to flash with, which will work on Windows, Mac, and Linux. For Windows, MartyMcNuts made a nice UI for it to make flashing super simple. sdftool is made by Mike and is built into MakeMKV. It's the only tool...

Re: Flashing the ASUS BW-16D1HT and or LG-BH16NS40

That's a matter of opinion, tbh. Drive quality has certainly suffered recently. Billy only sells the bu40 for a reason. However, if you want a desktop drive, the NS40 with NS50 svc code works well enough. The ASUS is fine. I personally only buy NS60 drives at this point, but, they are a bit more exp...
