Re: Ever tried 3D movies in VR?

I'd also be interested in that (as well as for 3D projectors). Especially the question, once I have the archived 3D BD - or perhaps already an MKV - can I play back in 3D on a VR-headset/projector with purely opensource (by that I don't mean, that the device firmware needs to be opensource - that an...

Re: Which drive?

I need to correct myself, after just having it double checked:

The BDR-S12U of mine is actually a cross flashed BDR-S12XLT ... hat totally forgotten about that and just read it on the device's label now.
But the two BDR-XS07U should be true ones.

Sorry for the confusion.

Re: Which drive?

@Coopervid: It's clear how to find out whether LibreDrive is supported when one has the device... I just don't have a BU40N yet ;-) @MrPenguin: Not sure, as I've said it does work for *my* BDR-S12U but not for my two BDR-XS07U - however, all these devices have their firmware as I got them when order...

Which drive?

Hey folks. I already do have a number[0] of LibreDrive compatible drives (e.g. 2x BDR-XS07U). Recently I've learned[1] that some drives (unfortunately it seems not the aforementioned BDR-XS07U) can circumvent bus encryption even on UHDs with either just libbluray+libaacs or alternatively with dvdfab...

Re: SDFtool Flasher

Nevermind. Just found out myself.

I had to do RECOVERY, selecting the DE_LG_WH16NS60_1.02_MK firmware as the "wrong" one and the DE_LG_BH16NS55_1.02 as the right one.
And with that, DVDFab seems happy.

Re: SDFtool Flasher

Hey there. I had bought HL-DT-ST BH16NS55, that had firmware 1.05. I want to use it with DVDFab.cn (for MakeMKV I've already bought a number of LibreDrive friendly Panasonic drives from asmcom), which allegedly is able to give me the RDK for UHDs (see https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1998784...

Yes, the subdomain hkdata of crabdance.com is gone, even when querying the authoritative NS for crabdance.com: $ dig @ns1.afraid.org. hkdata.crabdance.com ; <<>> DiG 9.19.21 <<>> @ns1.afraid.org. hkdata.crabdance.com ; (1 server found) ;; global options: +cmd ;; Got answer: ;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: Q...

Re: AACSv2 UHD DRM finally fully cracked?

the keys makemkv and others use are not from powerdvd for aacs 2 stuff. Is it publicly known then, where they come from? we dont have any aacs 2 keys unless you want to count the one in the video Yeah I meant the VUKs... and as long as we get new ones of them, which is enough to rightfully open wha...

Re: AACSv2 UHD DRM finally fully cracked?

powerdvd which just removed UHD support a couple weeks ago. I wonder whether this will have any negative impact on the community of»people who want to actually be able to play back the videos they previously bought independent of the mood of some greedy industry«, i.e. "us"... I mean I ha...

btw: Thanks for that pointer :-)

Does anyone know whether makemkcon would warn or error if it would want to use java, but doesn't find it?

Just a heads up in case you don't know yet... there's another library (though Python) around makemkvcon:

Re: mmkv_abi: A Python library for MakeMKV

Really nice. That should be part of MakeMKV, so that one can be sure it's up2date. :-)

btw: I think you needlessly import pprint but never use it afterwards.

Re: Question about the potential for using LibreDrive for CD preservation

Isn't LibreDrive "just" about about defeating BusEncryption? If so, that shouldn't apply to CDs.

does one need to have Java installed

Hey there. I just wondered, whether on needs OpenJDK (or JRE) installed for MakeMKV (respectively makemkvcon) do defeat all evilness? Using it on Linux, I was already able to backup some BDs/UHDs with NO Java installed ... and still seemed to work. There is however some config setting where on can s...
