Re: A little confused

Thanks for running the test!!! :D I asked the Shield and it lead me to videos that helped me figure out the audio. Like you found VLC worked with no adjustment. The next and bigger problem if I'm trying to play 4k HDR videos on my 1080P set they look washed out. Both VLC and Kodi looked the same.

Re: Any luck with Dolby Vision titles?

This may be a little off topic but I am new to Makemkv and UHD. I have a Oppo 105D I use for 1080P playback files. I bought a Sony ubp-x800 to play the UHD discs and files and it won't decode the DTSX Atmos audio from a MKV file. I have 2 options return the Sony and get a Oppo 203 or the cheaper op...

Re: How to Convert MKV to M2TS

Not sure this is going to work. For the Martian it gives me 155 M2TS files and way to play them seamlessly from HDD. Is there a way to convert the MKV file to 1 M2TS file?

Re: How to Convert MKV to M2TS

.m2ts is the native file format of Blu-ray/UHD audio/video stream files. Use MakeMKV's disc backup function and check the "decrypt" checkbox. Navigate the backup directory and get the .m2ts files from /BDMV/STREAM Thanks it looks like its working takes about 40 min to rip. So when its don...

How to Convert MKV to M2TS

When I play UHD MKV backups from a HDD my Sony ubp-x800 will not decode the HD audio streams. It was suggested to get a Nvidea Shield and play from that so I got one and yes it plays the audio correctly but because I have a 1080P set the 4k HDR video looks all washed out. It was also suggested elsew...

Re: Any luck with Dolby Vision titles?

With latest Updates I've been able to rip quite a few of my UHD's, a number of which are Dolby Vision titles. I'm just ripping out the main Audio/Video/Subtitle tracks to an MKV file and so far everything is working great on playback except for Dolby Vision. When I try to play a Dolby Vision title ...

Re: A little confused

Well, I'm a Plex guy, so I use Plex. I have Kodi installed on my Shield, but never use it. I'll play around with it this weekend and let you know. I don't know for sure if VLC is in the TV Google store, but you might check that out. Edit: checked the Google Store, says VLC is compatible with all ve...

Re: A little confused

Like I thought for me the Shield is no good for watching 4k movies. I figured out how to get it to decode DTSX and Atmos files. I posted up at the Nvidia forum so far no response. I guess there is no way to fix it. Seems like a pretty big loss of quality. The mkv files look great from the Sony play...

Re: A little confused

c
Yup, because 1080p sets aren't HDR. You need either playback software or playback hardware that will tone map the HDR to SDR.
So the Shield is no good for my situation?

Re: A little confused

With both the 7.1 and the nested 5.1 core selected, you will get two separate full audio tracks in the MKV - a 7.1 track and a 5.1 track. To get the "full audio" you don't need the core selected unless you want a lesser quality and/or fewer channel track as a second option taking up the f...

Re: A little confused

Got my Nvidea shield today and another huge learning curve. Not sure how to make DTSX and Atmos work. I installed Kodi and played MKV files but the SS processor decoded it as multi-in. Did not compare the video but my 1st impression is it was not as good as the disc. I know I'm getting old now! I lo...

Re: A little confused

So just to be clear this is a screenshot of how I have backed up the 6 movies I have done I watch just a short time as I prefer the full audio. You can't see that no other files are checked there might have been 50 or more. Back to the Nvidia shield looking at it the $299 pro version looks like it m...

Re: A little confused

Thanks guys that makes more sense. So like I said I'm just selecting the movie and the two audio tracks at this point so I can raise it back up. Are there ever UHD movies that have multiple video tracks making up the main feature? So far it looks like makemkv presorts all the files and you have one ...
