Re: ASUS BW-16D1HT Reliability?

You're saying you're happy it came with the UHD friendly firmware, but please note that you can flash a friendly firmware to it even if it came with one that's not friendly. With the official ASUS flasher posted here https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=18933 it's super easy and 100% s...

I've tried to refresh the drive to 3.1MK, and then back to 3.02, and there is no difference.
Did you try the DE version of 3.02 (not MK)? If not - try it, that's the one that helped me.

Re: Can a UHD disc kill a drive?

Can you say specifically what firmware you used to flash the ASUS? Originally I've been using the MK 3.10 firmware and after the drive crapped out, I downgraded to 3.02, but not the MK release, I used the DE version instead, that is - DE_ASUS_BW-16D1HT_3.02.bin from this pack: https://www.mediafire...

Re: Stand By Me 4k aacs 2.1/c v70

I don't know if there's anything we can do to help, but if there is... As Mike said: Simplified, imagine a single frame from a the same scene encoded slightly differently - a house with a red roof on one frame and a green roof on another. Per rather complex AACS 2.1 crypto you can only get a key to...

Re: "automatic sdf downloading is disabled or failed" while decrypting

I still can't access the HK site. It's been more than 3 days now so even my local ISP's DNS should get the memo, but I also double-checked the Google DNS settings. According to http://www.whatsmydnsserver.com/ I was still on my ISP's DNS even though I've set up Google on the router so I've then set ...

It's been 48 hours already and it still doesn't work for me, even via Google's DNS :(

Re: "automatic sdf downloading is disabled or failed" while decrypting

Earlier https://www.makemkv.com/svq/sdf.bin was mentioned, but is that the exact same URL that the app uses? I can access this URL today and could yesterday, I even downloaded that file and put it into the data folder, but it didn't help. Also http://www.hkdatastore.tk/ was mentioned before that. Th...

Re: "automatic sdf downloading is disabled or failed" while decrypting

Flushing the DNS cache didn't help in my case. I'm still getting the "Automatic HK downloading is disabled or failed." error.

What is the exact URL/domain that the app is using to pull this data from?

Can a UHD disc kill a drive?

Recently, one of my drives - the LG BH16NS55 - stopped reading Blu-ray discs. Not just 4K, but also regular BDs. It happened right after I tried to rip a 4K disc and it failed at the stage where it reads the disc's contents. It started to show some errors so I decided to stop the process, tried agai...

Re: Time to rip 4K

That sounds a bit slow. When I rip my 4K movies it can take a bit under an hour for a 60-ish GB file so for 90 GB it would probably take me 1.5 hours in total. It might be a stupid question, but given your rip time and the fact that you're using a HDD in an enclosure connected to a laptop, I have to...

Thanks.

Wow. It's the old "because it's piracy" excuse? Eh, PayPal... I guess they never heard of Plex.

Can I pay for MakeMKV using PayPal?

While waiting for this month's beta key I figured I may as well finally buy it. There's a "PayPal" logo on the purchase page next to all the CC options (Visa, MasterCard etc.) yet when you click on "Buy", the form doesn't give me the option to pay via PayPal. Unfortunately, I don't trust the payment...

Re: Life of Pi - 7 minutes of repeated footage at the end?

Have you tried playing the disc to see what happens after the credits? I can't do that. I don't have a "real" 4K system/player yet so the only way I can watch UHD content is by ripping it from the disc first. That said, if it happened to you with "28 Days Later", did you try to play that disc in a ...

Life of Pi - 7 minutes of repeated footage at the end?

When I ripped this movie, MakeMKV showed me two titles on the list, I think one had more subtitle tracks than the other, but they both have identical runtime of 2:14:33. I went with the first one. Today I actually watched the movie and noticed that it has ~7 minutes of extra video-only (no sound) fo...

Re: Can't rip (or even read) "The Hunger Games: Catching fire"

Today I received my third copy of this movie - the German release. It came in one of those super thin flimsy cases which some people may like, but for some reason I always associate them with "low effort releases" - movies that barely make it to Blu-ray with no expectation to sell well, where the di...
