Format of the speed setting string

The speed setting is just a single number - a target (maximum) read speed in megabytes per second. This setting is per drive and per media type. Each drive and each media type - CD, Single-layer DVD, Triple-layer UHD, and so on - have each own setting. There is also a single "default" setting that a...

MakeMKV drive speed control

Starting from version 1.15.2 MakeMKV has an option for drive speed control. When enabled, MakeMKV will actively change drive speed - lower it down in case of read error or when the program scans the disc, and set the maximum speed when reading a large continuous file. The extent of the drive speed c...

Re: Dolby Vision and 1.15.1

1.15.2 Implements the latest method for storing DV metadata (per new spec) and has a fix for invalid layer id (spotted by yusesope). In theory, this should be a "final working" version. Let's see if other tools will pick it up...

Re: Asus BW-16D1HT Firmware crashes? Faulty drive?

I have never seen anything like that. I would call it a hardware glitch - sort of lame, but I never seen anything close. Especially that it reproduces on stock firmware (not that MK firmware changes any code logic, but still)...

HL-DT-ST (LG) Safe cross-flash matrix

One unexpected outcome from analyzing latest HL-DT-ST "encrypted" flasher was a discovery of a so-called safe cross-flash matrix. This is just a table embedded in LG flashing tool, that describes "primary" drive and it's "derivatives". The flasher assumes that any "derivative" can be flashed to "pri...

Re: BD-RE BU40N Revision: 1.04

it also makes me wonder. The drive comes from a legal distribution ... I think the distributor or supplier has changed the firmware (forcibly?). This is really strange. I think they are running some sort of upgrade process (could be recall / refurbish) where the drive gets a new firmware with encry...

It is blocked in Japan (both DNS and IP), and it turns that Australia is connected via Japan CDN.

I have a very large pile of optical drives dating back to the CD-only era. I've started seeing which ones MakeMKV has a drive platform displayed for. Let me know if the firmware dumps get annoying... lol

Re: Reverting MK Firmware Flash for BH16NS55

So my question is, how would I go about putting the original firmware back on since LG hasn't released the firmware, and there is no way I can get a dump myself. Exactly. However they recently started to release the new-generation firmwares, with encrypted downgrade check. For your drive this is 1....

Re: Ultimate UHD Drives Guide Updated 2020

3.02 stays longer at low read speeds if errors occur and was therefore succesful when 3.10 would fail. 1.15.2 has (would have once released) speed control feature that, among other things, would put the drive to the lowest speed in case of read errors and put back to maximum (possibly above riplock...

The thing is, I am using a Windows desktop or my Macbook laptop (with an external DVD drive, which I use on both computers). Will I be able to use the same license key, to both computers?
Yes.
