1.16.7 is detecting but not copying Closed Captions
This stopped working at some point; I am not sure at what version. The program detects and displays the presence of CC subtitles but at the end of the rip has: "AV sync issue in stream 2 at 0:00:00 : Track #2 turned out to be empty and was removed from output file". The track is not empty....

Re: Has anyone ever bought a retail film which came on a duplicated Blu Ray disc?
I've had BD-R discs from Sony and Film Detective.

Re: Best compression while maintaining quality
It is important to run your own experiments, test different parameters to see what differences you can detect. Also be aware that changes that are not visible on one display may become more so on a different one. That said, this is what I use with command-line Handbrake: For Blu-ray, --preset="...

Re: Closed captions cause MKV files to crash
Do the files play correctly with a software player like VLC? There is a free utility "mediainfo". Compare the text report for a working file and a MakeMKV CC file. Any obvious differences in the subtitle attributes? When you extract a CC track into a .srt file, does it look well-formed in ...

Re: Closed captions cause MKV files to crash
I use that feature, too, and it works well for playback with my OPPO player, and with VLC and KODI. I believe that text subtitle tracks in MKV are always UTF8. See the manual page for mkvmerge. Do you know if your players will correctly play any text subtitle tracks in MKV? You might experiment with...

Re: Suggestion: Save decoding info for complex multiplex discs
This doesn't exactly address the problem of reusing the state, but I note that MakeMKV runs through the complex multibranch process very quickly when the DVD has been copied to a hard drive or SSD first. If I suspect this is going to be a problem (older discs for me) I first copy the DVD with anothe...

Re: Closed captions in Blu-ray
From my notes, here is a list of Blu-rays with closed captions. Bridge Too Far, A (1977) Die Another Day (2002) Entrapment (1999) Firefly (2002) I, Robot (2004) Master and Commander (2003) Mr & Mrs Smith (2005) Omen, The (1976) (old disk) Omen III: The Final Conflict (1981) (old disk) I've becom...

Closed captions in Blu-ray
Using 1.6.1 I've noticed (good) behavior I have not seen before. Closed captions are rare in Blu-ray but they do exist. They show up in MakeMKV for DVD but not Blu-ray. But: an MKV I just produced from a Blu-ray has the cc text as an extra track, for free. I've only tried this on one disk but will t...

Re: 1.15.4 "Application fails to initialize"
Just a note: on Arch the AUR has makemkv and it installs with the normal methods.
Is that not working?

In Preferences, under Advanced, try this for ccextractor executable location:
/usr/bin/true

shattered Blu-ray disk
This is a new one for me. I started a full disk backup of a standard Blu-ray and left the house. MakeMKV reported errors when I returned. Ejecting the disk it came out in broken fragments, large and small. I fear the drive is ruined, but I'll open up the computer tomorrow to see if more clean up is ...

Post the text reports from mediainfo for the before and after cases so we have more idea of the file contents.

Re: Question to all: MakeMKV without GUI, console only
I don't use console makemkv now, but can imagine how it might be useful under the "I run MakeMKV on a remote box" category. I am saving decrypted full disc backups as iso files on my server. These are "safety backups" of my Blu-ray collection. I may want to extract mkv files in t...
