Re: External Hard Drives
I watch my movies from a hard drive connected to the TV USB port. I just looked at an original rip of Top Gun Maverick BR and it played fine on a Samsung TV from a WD Passport portable drive. Keep in mind that the MKV file is 32GB so that would be about 30 movies on a 1TB drive. Read your Sony TV ma...

Re: How do you all watch the MKV remuxes over your home network?
I just connect an NTFS formatted hard drive loaded with movie.mkv files to the USB port of my Samsung TV. It plays them without any problem. Use the 1 amp port for a portable drive or use a self powered drive.

Re: Ripping Errors ?
Both Woodstock and H4rd3n have explained why you may get distortions after a skip. dcoke22 and H4rd3n have asked which computer application (player) you are using to view the video since a good player would likely display the pre-skip frame until it reached an I-frame after the skip. Woodstock has s...

Re: Forced Subs - Handbrake Foreign Audio Search
If I don't need subtitles, only forced subs, do I just tick the subtitle track in Makemkv or both Subtitle and Forced only or only "Forced only"? Is it sufficient to just select Foreign Audio Search in Handbrake (burned in) if I have the Subtitle track? Thanks I usually check all the Engl...

Re: Need help correcting audio problems
Since AAC is just an audio compression method, it would be nice to know how many channels are inside the compressed file. Maybe it is switching between 2.0 and 5.1 from commercial to program. Since the disc plays in a BR player to your TV, try putting the .MKV file on a USB portable storage device a...

Re: Need help correcting audio problems
Reading about Freeview in Wikipedia the HD channels do have copy protection while the SD channels do not. Possibly there is extra audio encryption as you first suspected. Then patching the SD audio with the HD video may be your only choice. For HD there can be a second, program description, audio ch...

Re: Need help correcting audio problems
That file information looks quite ordinary. Video - H264 and audio - AAC are common and should be easily decoded. You have only one audio track so no chance of picking the wrong track. The Freeview BR discs don't play with VLC but they must play in an ordinary BD disc player, right? What is your wor...

Re: Need help correcting audio problems
You're right, that playback combination of a Mac, VLC and an SSD should be flawless. A long list of ffmpeg errors would not help me but maybe look at the MKV file with MediaInfo or MKVToolNIX to see what type of tracks are within the file. Maybe British TV changes audio formats between the advertise...

Re: Need help correcting audio problems
The sync problems that MakeMKV finds are usually insignificant and 40ms would not be any problem. The video and audio tracks in the MakeMKV MKV file are identical to those on your Blu-Ray disc. How are you playing back the MKV file? The player or a limited data rate to the player may cause playback ...

Re: What drive do you write videos to?
I write the original MKV to a WD portable 1TB hard drive. They are fast enough and cheap and reliable though you may need an adapter for USB C. Then I can take the portable drive to a more powerful computer for Handbrake compression of the movie.

If you search the forum for "Hellboy (2019)" you will find a four page posting on the mpls for this film giving both the US and UK retail versions. Posts from hvnphoto seem to be 100% accurate.

Re: "Fake playlist" protection - help needed
Thanks for the link! I ripped my disks using the .mpls numbers listed, but I noticed that the file names on my rips are different from the ones listed in the link. Specifically the source file name:"number".mkv was different from the files name numbers on the list linked to on this forum....

Re: Play (decryption only) license?
This is entirely up to Mike, of course. For my 2 cents, decryption is about 90% of what MakeMKV does. Making a movie file is fairly simple comparatively. The license is permanent so it works for future versions and past versions of MakeMKV. There is no "annual renewal fee." I bought mine f...

Re: Seeking Advice with my Pioneer BDR-212UBK
If you can't play a .mkv file with VLC then there is a problem with your VLC program. Maybe re-install the latest stable version.

Re: Seeking Advice with my Pioneer BDR-212UBK
Can you rip a BR disc to an .mkv file with MakeMKV and then play that file with VLC? That would show that both programs are functional.
