Re: Joy
Thanks, done. Is there a way to tell when I can rip the disc? Simply try every other day until it works?

Joy
I just received my copy of Joy today and tried to rip it with the latest version (1.9.10) of MakeMKV under Windows 10 x64. The drive is a Samsung / TSSTCorp SE-506AB with firmware TS01. Protection is reported as AACS v57, BD+ v2016.3. After opening the disc, I get the following error: --------------...

Re: Samsung SE-506AB does not support 4K Ultra HD Blu-rays
How does your drive behave when you insert a 4K Blu-ray, were you able to test? Mine also supports BDXL, but there is no firmware available other than the TS01 which is several years old.

Re: Basic Blu-Ray Burning
No, you need a Blu-ray drive. Either an external one you can connect via USB, or an internal one to replace your DVD drive in the laptop.

Samsung SE-506AB does not support 4K Ultra HD Blu-rays
Just wanted to let you know that the Samsung SE-506AB external Blu-ray writer, white it supports tripple layer BD-Rs, does not read 4K Ultra HD Blu-rays. I just tested with the German release of The Martian and the drive spins up, you can hear read attempts and the lens moving around, then spins dow...

Re: Disc with AACS version higher than officially supported
Ah, that explains it then, I ripped the AACS v60 disk on my laptop and then I connected the drive to my PC. Thought the AACS version was read from the device.

Re: Disc with AACS version higher than officially supported
Now this is awkward. The drive I use is an external Samsung BD writer. After ripping "When Marnie Was There" that clearly had AACS v60 (I event sent the respective file to the dev), I unplugged the drive and put it in the drawer. Now I plugged it in again to rip another disc I bought (the ...

Disc with AACS version higher than officially supported
What happens when you try to rip a Blu-ray with an AACS version higher than officially supported? I have a copy of "When Marnie Was There" that is using AACS v60 and the latest version supported is AACS v58. The disc is ripping fine so far (~25% done).

Re: Rip PGS to SRT on the fly
MakeMKV is a ripper. The Blu-rays have the subtitles stored as image, so that's what MakeMKV rips. Some Blu-rays make use of the fact that subtitles are images and style the subtitles accordingly (see Avatar for example), some don't and the text looks just like plain old Arial. What holds you back f...

Re: Ripping speed
I am not sure if this is the reason as it only happened with three discs so far, but I'll be damned if it is coincidence. My Samsung drive, if the Blu-ray inserted updates the AACS version, will read with 0.5x until the next tray cycle. I only noticed now that the Roger Waters Blu-ray has AACS v57 a...

Is that even required for MVC? I thought it's only needed for the SBS 3D videos.

Roger Waters - The Wall is also ripping at only 0.5x and the disc is brand new.

Re: 3D MVC Option
Really? Where do you have that info from? I just did a quick search on OpenELEC's and Kodi's Wiki but cannot find anything for MVC. If that really works, I might end up buying a Pi 2. ^^

Re: Ripping speed
Wondering why the drive is reading at only 0.4x then. The disc is in perfect condition, no scratches whatsoever. That's why I was asking if there's a difference for the drive if a disc is being read for playback or read for copy. It was my understanding that riplock is not really a riplock per-se, b...

Re: Ripping speed
Maybe I was not clear, I know my drive has a rip lock. What I don't understand is how come for single-layer discs it does't even reach 1x. I thought 1x is the minimum speed required for Blu-ray playback. Therefore my question: from the drive's point of view, is there a difference between disc playba...
