I just tested this, but misread the location msg. Log is written to C:\Users\[username]/MakeMKV_log.txt, so up one level from the defined Data directory.

That's just the way that msg prints... even when the path is syntactically correct on the 'General' tab in preferences. If the log is not being saved, it's typically a permissions issue. No other messages?

I revised your setting (which seems to be the out-of-the-box default) to this: -sel:all,+sel:(favlang|nolang),-sel:core,-sel:mvcvideo,=100:all,-10:favlang and it does just what I want. Thanks again. I sure wish MakeMKV had a feature where you could do a bulk untick of all the titles. It's much easier to select the few real ones than deselect all the junk.

Right-click on the Title list > 'Unselect all'.
