Re: VLC Bluray playback with MakeMKV snap

I'm just trying to spend some effort now to avoid some later. Since the snap auto updates I only need to figure this out once instead of having to rebuild makemkv every time there's a release. Once you have built MakeMKV the first time, it's trivial to do it on a new release. It seems to me that th...

One thing I noticed was I think it got a bit too fast because I noticed it dropped down to a "Safe Speed" mode for a bit near the end. :o
That will happen at the layer switch to prevent errors/failures of the rip. Totally normal and expected.

Re: VLC Bluray playback with MakeMKV snap

The idea of a snap is that it's a isolated package from the OS. So trying to integrate parts of the snap with VLC (not part of the snap) probably will not work well. I would suggest just installing/compiling MakeMKV systemwide. It's not that difficult if you are using Ubuntu or Mint (or another Ubun...

Re: Warning: MacTheRipper

Thanks for uploading the file. My disc set is also 12+1, and the I have the same ID (DVDL-6258300A1 1) on the rear of the disc, and the sample looks the same as mine. My file size for the first episode is only 498 MB, compared to your which is 562 MB. Do you have any ideas why the file size would b...

Re: Warning: MacTheRipper

How many discs are in your set? My set is 12 (3 per season) + 1 bonus disc. Season 1, Episode 1 is 561.7MB (of course it depends on what you ripped from the disc, so your size may be different). For your viewing pleasure, here's a link to the first 4 minutes of that episode: https://drive.google.com...

Re: Removing previews

I don't think I've ever ripped a movie that had the preview baked into the main feature. What movie are you trying to rip?
As to the movie studio opening, that's part of the movie. If you really need to get rid of it (and for some movies that would mess up the sound) you could use MKVToolNix.

Re: Warning: MacTheRipper

Have you seen that complaint before about MacTheRipper? Why would that be on an official non-bootleg disk? Here's my dilemma. I'm willing to purchase the DVD set again on Amazon if I knew the videos would be of higher quality. But, that would not make sense if I actually have the official version a...

Re: Error 'Posix error - Permission denied' occurred while creating

I did a little digging into how snaps work, and I'm now convinced that your problem is with the snap.
You have to give the snap access removable media. Have a look at this link for more info:

Re: UHD Rip with Dolby Vision disabled?

I don't think that the DV information makes the file much larger. Probably not enough to worry about.
And you may in the future upgrade to a TV that supports DV. In that case you'd have to re-rip all of your movies.

Re: Error 'Posix error - Permission denied' occurred while creating

Did you try the ps command that I suggested to verify what user MakeMKV is running as?

Instead of a snap, why don't you just install it? It's not that difficult.

Re: Error 'Posix error - Permission denied' occurred while creating

The only think that I can think of is that MakeMKV isn't running as your user. Did you install from source?

While MakeMKV is running, what user is MakeMKV running as?

Code: Select all

ps -ef | grep -i makemkv
Will show what user makemkv is running as (and makemkvcon).

Re: Error 'Posix error - Permission denied' occurred while creating

I did not want to use my real user name. I'm not sure why you are really worried about that. But.. The problem wasn't with that part of the path, it was the missing drive part. So what happens if you try this from the shell: touch /media/username/drivelabel/videos/MovieName/testfile And what does: ...

Error 'Posix error - Permission denied' occurred while creating /media/username/MovieName
Unless label of the drive is MovieName, that's your problem. The path should be:

Code: Select all

/media/username/drivelabel

Re: convert video dv dual layers tow tracks into dual layers one track

Are you just trying to remux an AVI or mp4 file into a mkv? If so then you can just use MKVtoolNix to do the job. It will not touch the video/audio track, it just re-writes the container.
