Re: "Friendly" drive names?

MakeMKV has the ability to show both the drive name and the name of the disc, as both are displayed on the screen before you actually begin to read the disc in MakeMKV. What my suggestion is, is to replace [random drive name] with a name of your own choosing Until then you could assign fitting driv...

Re: Subtitles are Not Being Extracted

I wanted to post screenshots of MakeMKV and MediaInfo of the resulting MKV, but it seems I'm not allowed to post pictures on this forum as I'm a new member. It's really good then that you can simply select View > Text in Mediainfo and copy/paste it into your post (in between code tags preferrably).

Re: Subtitles

IIRC VLC playback according to the default flag being set is also dependent on a default language being selected in VLC's settings.

MakeMKV Batch Converter on Windows 11?

Since the other thread on this is old and flooded with links to BatchMKV (which I consider an inferior piece of software) I'm wondering: Has anyone been able to get

https://github.com/agrit/MakeMKV-Batch-Converter/find/master

to work under Windows 11?

Re: Subtitles on LG TV

Right. Still, seems to be supported by Subtitle Edit so you could OCR + convert and add that as an additional (external) subtitle stream.

Re: Subtitles on LG TV

As dcoke22 mentioned it's quite possible your TV only supports text-based subs like SRT and SSA but no image-based like Vobsub and PGS. In that case you would have to OCR them with Subtitle Edit or Subextractor.

Re: Flag force/default for subtitles - Windows

The header editor of MKVToolnix allows to remove/add them without remuxing the file.

Re: converting dts to dolby

Don't bother with the "Live Streaming" version. Actually, if you still want to go with WDTV that's the best version with the most file support and less bugs. Still, I'm also annoyed to no end that Western Digital discontinued the series instead of releasing a new player with Kodi or somet...

You'd also need to take into account that Samsung dropped support for DTS audio in 20180 or so.

Re: Subtitles. Subtitles everywhere. How do you select?

I'm still very new to this, and am mainly asking how I can strip descriptive audio from an existing backup, or re-run the backup in such a way where it won't even be copied over (not sure if that's possible). Well, you could start by creating a new thread on audio selection instead of posting into ...

Is this still the case?
Yes, but if a forced sub IS identified and you've set

setFirstForcedSubtitleTrackAsDefault="true"

in your config file, it will be set to default which also displays the sub automatically in many cases.

Re: Ripping a DVD with forced subtitles

How can you tell if a film contains forced subs or not? You play back the first 10 seconds of the first dialogue spoken in the movie with the first subtitle activated. If the dialogue you hear is matched on the screen than this is a regular sub. Repeat this for all subtitle tracks and the moment th...

Since MKVToolnix alread exists, I'd rather see this or this fixed or my all-time-favourite: detecting unflagged forced subs tracks by size.

Re: Ripping a DVD with forced subtitles

Since MakeMKV can't recognize forced items inside DVD tracks you'd have to extract the track that you suspect of containing them and then use BDSUP2SUB to extract those items into a separate track to be manually muxed into the mkv with MKVToolnix.
