Scan Types: Interlaced vs Progessive

Post by bugoy8 »

First of all, great tool!

Had one question on scan types. Been converting DVD movies from their seeded DVD structures (folders) to mkvs. Doing a few spot checks using Mediainfo and found that some of the "scan types" are interlaced and some are progressive.

Code: Select all

Language : English
Does the scan type impact the quality of the mkv file? What's puzzling is that when I run some of the original VOB files through Mediainfo, there are some progressive and some interlaced scan types (ie. same movie, different VOBs). I guess I was always expecting progressive as the scan type. Can someone please confirm this. My real concern just comes back to the quality.

Thanks.

Hi bugoy,

Thank you for the warm words first of all:)
MakeMKV doesn't change anything, so if it's interlaced it will stay interlaced, progressive stays progressive.
