I was looking at the "troubled" pcm BRs and I did notice that they all seemed to be 24bit, where the ones that worked were not.

Anyway, it is BETA software, and its free so can't really complain. ;-)

Glad you confirmed, I knew I wasn't going crazy. When you fix it, I will redo my PCM BRs, due to the channel issue. Thanks for the update. I will hang loose until the next release.

With out trying to overly complicate things, I just used MakeMKV to rip everything but that the PCM. Then I used Tsmuxer to demux just that audio and them remuxed it back into the MKV with mkvmerge.

So, on to the TRUEHD issue, still getting these errors using 1.5.1 and eac3to 3.18, but I don't get these errors, and the need for the delay to fix audio sync when I do a backup then eac3to, I only have this problem when decoding from mkv produced by makemkv.

Code: Select all

If you enable "log debug messages" in MakeMKV, restart the program and try to re-create that MKV do you get any of DEBUG messages?

Does this mean anything to you, seeing a bunch of these at the begin:

Attached is the whole log for The Perfect Storm, which is one of the BRs that give this truehd error when creating mkv with makemkv.

Beautiful. "Code 30" error is #1 problem reported for last version, it is caused by some low-bitrate 5.1 TrueHD tracks. The fix is ready and will be available in 1.5.2, few days from now. Cross your fingers, this version should have all audio issues corrected. But if you see any broken TrueHD tracks without seeing "code 30" error, then it is a bigger problem.

ok, well, I will wait for 1.5.2, and restest on several truehd BRs that I know had this issue. Hopefully that solves the issue. That would be great and really resolve all of the major issues I know of. I have a large library of BRs and have been archiving them in MP4 since XMAS. Its interesting how much more streamlined the process has become since makemkv. In the begin, I could rarely use makemkv, now it has gotten so much better, after these issues, it will be pretty damn rock solid and a huge time saver.

TRUEHD test with eac3to 3.18 and with makemkv 1.5.2

Well done, it looks like you nailed it. Not only does the resulting file perfectly sync, there are NO errors to speak of. The Perfect Storm was about the worst example I have seen to date, with the number of errors. On top of the mismatch errors I listed above, here is the eac3to log output from makemkv 1.5.1:

Code: Select all

So I think this issue is resolved, but I have more to do, but first I will do some tests on PCM, and report back.

PCM issues seem resolved also, KB2, and Wild Hogs, no problems.

These threads are *so* helpful--thanks!

My question is, now that PCM is implemented properly, what is the easiest way to play an mkv with PCM audio in Windows Media Center 7? Is MPlayer still the only player that will function properly or is there any way for me to get it into WMC?

If there's no way to play it directly in WMC, then what's the easiest way to convert it to FLAC? Should I use eac3to and then MKVMerge to put it back into one file? Is there any way to do it in one step?

Thanks!
