Is this failure top open a BD real bug or a license issue?

Post by MakOwner »

As the beta key presently available doesn't work, I'm trying to run it anyway - I get this message when opening a BD:

"Evaluation period has expired. Please purchase an activation key if you've found this application useful. You may still use all free functionality without any restrictions."

But the open fails on The Hateful Eight.

Is this really a bug or just intentional breakage because of the license thing?

Easy test is to set your system date back temporarily to prior to March 25 and start MakeMKV. If it still says it can't open the disk, it is probably a problem with reading the directory.

If it now works, then it's because you reached the end of the 30 day trial of the BD reading features, in which case you will have to continue to use the back-date work-around until Mike posts a new beta key. The new key should reset the 30 day evaluation on BD features.
