Payment options

Post by drathbun »

Hi, I've been using MakeMKV for some time now, and intended to pay for it yesterday. I was a bit surprised to find that PayPal was not an option, but reading other topics here I now understand why. However, I am not willing to use the payment option currently provided as they don't seem to offer a fully secure connection to their payment gateway. When I connect to PayPal, there is a nice green "Lock" icon on my browser toolbar, which (supposedly) indicates a secure end-to-end connection. The payment processing service used by this site does not have that, despite the "https" protocol indicated in the URL, so I'm not thrilled about sending my credit card information.

Is there any other option for payment? I'll even resort to mailing a check if that's what it takes... I'm very pleased with the use I have been able to get out of the software and it's time to pay my share. I've been able to rip and encode nearly my entire movie / TV series collection. I can't tell you how much more I enjoy my library now that everything is available via my media system, rather than having to get the physical discs out. Not to mention the reduced storage space since I've filed everything away in sleeves.

I guess what I'm saying is that I want to pay, but I'm not willing to use the current publicly available option. I can even do a private PayPal transaction instead of going through a formal gateway if that gets around the "issue" mentioned in other posts.

Thanks

Hi,

Chrome puts the green "secure" section when every link / image / object linked externally is linked to a https:// source. If there is even one item NOT using https://, it doesn't colour it with the green secure format.

Looking at the page, it is https:// secured. However, there are 8 items / links on that page linking to http:// , which are:

Code: Select all

Line 2: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
	Line 353: <li><a href="http://www.makemkv.com/">Home</a></li>
	Line 354: <li><a href="http://www.makemkv.com/download/">Download</a></li>
	Line 356: <li><a href="http://www.makemkv.com/aboutmkv/">About MKV</a></li>
	Line 357: <li><a href="http://www.makemkv.com/onlinehelp/">Online Help</a></li>
	Line 358: <li><a href="http://www.makemkv.com/forum2/">Forum</a></li>
	Line 363: <div id="logo_softpedia"><a href='http://www.softpedia.com/progClean/MakeMKV-Clean-117330.html'>
	Line 1942: <img src="http://www.makemkv.com/images/tracker.gif?avangate" height="1" width="1" />
All of the non-secure links are links back to the makemkv website (save the link to softpedia's "we verified this program as clean" page), so it's nothing to worry about. In fact, click on the small (i) next to the URL, and click details, and shows the only reason there is no padlock is the http:// resources (as below)

In fact, you can use a website called https://www.whynopadlock.com/check.php and paste the URL of the page you'd buy MakeMKV from, and it verifies it as secure (also as below)

All in all, you shouldn't have any problems. I'd prefer Paypal as well, but this option is secure. Worst case, if you want to be 100% sure, you can buy a pre-paid credit card to the value of the purchase and use that for payment.
