the top photo is taken when playing the .iso
the bottom photo is taken when playing the .mkv made from makemkv
why the loss of detail and added brightness to the .mkv ? I thought makemkv was lossless. it appears not to be.

Does that only happen with VLC, or does MPC also show a difference?

Almost looks like a difference between 0-256 and 16-235 RGB ranges.
