ISO Backups & Dolby Vision + Atmos

Post by GranArcanum »

Hello,

Since there is no way at the current moment to retain Dolby Vision during the process of making an MKV, I was thinking about making an ISO backup of my UHD's to ensure that I can keep the Dolby Vision file in case this functionality gets added in future versions of MakeMKV.

Does anyone know if making a ISO backup of a disc using MakeMKV retains the Dolby Vision (and Dolby Atmos) file?

Thank you in advance!

MakeMKV does not do ISO backups. It writes out BD file structure (optionally decrypted), but that isn't an ISO.

In addition, this has been discussed in detail multiple times over in several existing posts. Using the forum search function could also be helpful in finding this information.

Example:

There is even a whole thread about it:

And there are no individual DV and/or DA “files” sitting somewhere. It does not work that way. Recommended you read that DV thread if possible, as it provides useful information regarding DV. A Google search can also provide additional information as well and also instructions on how to create ISO files from decrypted discs/BD folder structures.
