Please help! MakeMKV sees on-board DVD burner but not external Blu-ray player

Post by hkusp45 »

Hello! First time reaching out through the forum. I just purchased a fairly generic external Blu-ray USB drive. Windows 10 sees it, and it's listed in the device manager as an optical drive, but MakeMKV only sees my on-board DVD burner. I've searched through the forum and found several threads (the most extensive one referring exclusively to this problem on Linux machines), and tried what they suggested, including running MKV as administrator. Any thoughts as to how to get MKV to recognize my external drive?

The biggest question is why Win10 isn't REPORTING it as an optical drive when MakeMKV asks...

The use of admin mode usually fixes it, unless there is some non-permissions issue. 1.14.4 adds a "Windows service", which runs in admin mode, so that MakeMKV itself doesn't have to, but that is optional.
