Im new to this and tried makemkv for the first time today.
Tried to backup my copy of hobbit blu ray but it gives me stuttering video and weird sound.
The bonus disc gave me no problem though.
Is there some kind of protection on the main movie disc?

nevermind......the file worked fine on boxee box.
Surprised that my laptop with intel core i7 and 8gb ram and built in blu ray player couldnt run the video file.

That wouldn't have anything to do with the speed of your computer. It would only have to do with the player or codecs in your system (assuming there was no issue with the file). VLC is typically the best thing for playback.
If you tried to play it on your laptop over wireless (the file being on another computer) then you would have stuttering and other issues as only a maxed out N (or AC) connection streams fast enough for full Blu-ray bitrate.
