How do I change the codec h.265 to h.264?

Hello there,

when I ripp a 4k-film makemkv uses the codec h.265. My qnap-nas and my tv don't work with h.265 but with h.264.

My problem is, I do not know how to force makemkv to use the h.264-codec. Has anyone an idea how I do manage this?

Many thanks

MakeMKV takes existing tracks, as authored, & moves them to an .mkv container. You'll need to re-encode (HandBrake, VidCoder, et al) to achieve what you want. Expect it to take a while for 4k.

I prefer VidCoder (based on HandBrake core) & imagine other community members can provide additional suggestions.

Then why rip 4K films? Just rip Blu-ray

4K Discs H265
Blu-ray Discs H264

if you don't have a 4K TV why buy 4K Discs?

Get a new NAS or TV then cause re-encoding will take ages and the file will get much bigger.
