Wow, this Minix option is exciting, especially if we could get away from Android, with maybe a CoreELEC option. I guess that I'm going to have to add to my media box collection! Anybody know if this could be made to work on a Vero+?

For the guys with the minix, leave a comment here if you are interested in having Dolby vision in CoreELEC.

I've also found that running the DV mkv through mkvtoolnix after being created in MakeMKV makes it perform in terms of stuttering in Kodi.
When you run through mkvtoolnix, are you just demuxing and remuxing, as is, or are you making any changes?

I thought Quietvoid said this wasn’t possible in Linux?
It’s possible now if someone built a 32 bit version of CoreELEC. The devs would rather a 64 bit Dolby Vision kernel module.
64 bit DV library is unlikely since Amlogic only have a 32 bit SDK, Dolby only provide them 32 bit library. I got this info from Ugoos
Then our option is to find someone interested in porting CoreELEC to 32 bit.

If the vero uses the 4.9 vendor kernel.

how do you activate auto-frame rate match in KODI ? i found the setting on plex and it works but it doesn't match the frame rate on Kodi.... sorry for the noob question, I'm not used to those android apps/device, I'm an HTPC guy.

SDR colors are off (tested both kodi and plex.. both the same): https://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/12058

I tried many different settings but it looks like HDR10 is always sent in 8bit on this device. (tested plex and kodi, both the same)
resulting in incorrect colors: https://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/12059

going to compare DV with my x700 now but I'm no more optimistic... :(

Great to hear that x700 plays DV from the bd structure :D I had S6700 which also supported bd structure, but the screen used to freeze for few seconds while forwarding/rewinding. Does this mean it's better to go for sony? Unfortunately i can't purchase ugoos or minix at my place.
I just tried the tsmuxer-to-BDMV method on my Sony X700 with Spiderman Homecoming, and I was very pleasantly surprised to see that the forced subs came on in the sandwich shop scene at around 15mins. Forced subs don't work via the m2ts method as far as I know.

In Kodi it should be Settings->Player-> Adjust display refresh rate = Always

How did you enable Amlogic on-screen debug output? Do you have their tool?

just as a comparison, the x700 does a muchhhh better job with SDR and HDR10... Same accuracy with my win10 HTPC/madVR.

SDR: https://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/12060
HDR10: https://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/12062

Make sure you have your settings in "Expert Mode."

To do this, go to Settings > Player > Toggle the "gear" icon in the bottom left until it stays "Expert"

You can then change the "Adjust display refresh rate" setting to "Always."

Hi RESET_9999, could you try SDR and HDR10 tests again after changing: Android Settings > Device Preferences > Display > Dolby Vision > Dolby Vision disable?

I noticed that doing that changed the output colourspace. It would be a huge pain to have to switch this setting on and off manually when switching between SDR/HDR10 and DV content, but let's at least see if it gives correct colour output first.

I think I tried that but I'm not sure so I'll check again. I tried forcing 422 and I was hoping to get 12bit but no luck :(
444 12bit is possible, it's the x700 HDR10 default mode.. I force 422 on the x700 for the comparison because my capture card doesn't support 444 12bit.

Yep, you have to turn off DV in order to get 12 or 10 bits in HDR10 otherwise you're stuck in 8bit for everything. that sucks!!

I've compared DV with my x700 and it looks pretty much the same to me. My DSLR camera captured a small difference that I didn't notice in real life. MUCH better than the Shield for sure!!!

We can fix! Now which of us knows the most Chinese to contact support??

Edit: But seriously, that doesn't sound like a hard thing to fix if we could figure out the best channel to contact Ugoos technical team.

That's good news at least; thanks for the extensive testing.

With DV off, are you getting the correct colours now for the SDR/HDR10 test patterns? If so, it's something that should be easy for Ugoos to fix as bobby mentioned (match content colourspace with DV on).
