Sicario & John Wick Crash MakeMKV on Linux but not Windows

Hi
I've a couple of UHDs that crash MakeMKV 1.10.10 on Ubuntu 17.10 but work fine on Windows 10 when opening the disc to select the titles to rip.
Both of these seem to rely JRE installation and crash at the points shown in the images below.
This is the JRE I'm running on Ubuntu
openjdk version "1.8.0_151"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_151-8u151-b12-0ubuntu0.17.10.2-b12)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.151-b12, mixed mode)
Note this happens with both the Asus drive shown in the attachments and an LG BH16NS55 that was installed previously.
Any ideas?
