Thank you very much, it seems to me that many people in this forum use it, so surely they know how to use it or not?

People using a program and this forum supporting that program are two different things. DVDFab has its own (good by most reports) support community, with access to their developers. Pretty much every program discussed in this topic has their own forum/community for questions about that specific program, and, with few exceptions, the quality of support is better than on the forum of a competing product.

So apparently there's a method to backup UHD ISO's into MP4's that triggers Dolby Vision on an LG or Vizio television app via USB. I made this thread in the hopes we can figure out a way to reconvert this into MKV. The procecure is the following -

1. Make ISO of movie. I have only tested this with Black Panther since that's the only one I own. I will be buying Gladiator this weekend to test out though.

2. Use TS Muxer to open the ISO. Find the correct M2TS file and demux the following files:
A. HEVC1 in 4K (Base layer)
B. HEVC 2 in 1080p (this is the dolby vision enhancement layer)
C. Audio track which you will have to convert to AC3. This is a hard line limitation- you need to use AC3!!!

3. Once you have HEVC1, HEVC2, and the Audio track. Run Dolby Vision MP4Muxer (https://github.com/DolbyLaboratories/dlb_mp4base)
DolbyVision MP4 Muxer only works in Command Prompt so you have to navigate to the corresponding folders where the files are and type

mp4muxer --dv-profile 7 --input-file (baselayername.hevc1) --input-file (dvlayername.hevc2) --input-file (audio.ac3) --media-lang eng --output-file (nameofmovie).mp4

*Right now we are limited to only MP4 and AC3 audio. Hoping we figure out an MKV solution.

It sounds like its complicated, but it isn't. The entire process took me an hour to figure out, but once I did it, I sold my Xbox One X, because I'm now using my LG USB to play Dolby Vision MP4's! Hopefully this starts a discussion.
Hi y'all I've was up all night and did not get this to work properly perhaps am I doing something wrong

The step I'm having issues with is the command step I always get error massage the command does not exist internal external.

And I've tried granolas app which is super nice but get error massage the movie file does not have a Dolby vision video track

The movie I'm trying with is full uhd disc Avengers infinity war

Best regards

this isn't alchemy, you can't make Dolby Vision out of something that doesn't have Dolby Vision to begin with...

Hello,

Just got the latest Plex beta with my Shield Pro 2019, is there a definitive guide how to create these DV Single layer files with Atmos please?

Thank you.

granola, haha  Anyway thanks, and ya if it says your movie does not have dolby vision then it won't make you a file with dolby vision :P do as it says, and use a different movie.

The new file you just posted has proper ATMOS support too when played back on a HTPC using your tutorial. Confirmed I am getting ATMOS audio and I was able to hear sound come out of my ATMOS speakers.
Thank you both for your feedback.

Just tried the new Plex beta out on my Shield 2019 with your Dolby Vision DTS-X and DTS-HD MA and both files played back in Dolby Vision with DTS-X and DTS-HD MA audio.
I assume, the Single Layer files. Excellent news anyway!

That same file will NOT play back on my NVIDIA Shield vía Plex...Do the PLEX devs need to add support?
Correct . We must inform the developers (Plex, MrMC, etc.) about the existence of this possibility and they will implement the correct decoding (as did the developers of LAV Filters).
FusionNeo wrote:

Once this file plays back on the SHIELD, then I would assume it would be trivial to use a Dolby Vision video track in place of the video track you used in that file for full TRUEHD + Dolby Vision support, is that correct?
Correct again. I've just updated my "HOW TO".
Hi, I have checked your guide, is there anyway to do it without dvdfab? I can’t afford this software, regards

FYI, Atmos filed with Dolby Vision will NOT play back on the Shield 2019. Support for that has not been added yet and would need to be added by the devs.

The best you can do, at the moment, is LPCM 7.1 (which is lossless audio, just without the Atmos metadata.)

Also, DVDFab is a requirement to making these rips. They have a proprietary way of making Single Layer Dolby Vision rips which has yet to be replicated.

did you try LPCM inside an mp4 container with the new Shield? it doesnt work with the old shield, no audio at all.

As has been noted Plex on the 2019 Shield supports single layer DV in a TS container as well which does have native support for HD audio. Are there any known methods to create single layer DV TS files with HD audio?

Yes. I still need to do more testing, but audio works in LPCM. The only thing is my receiver is reporting the audio input as Dolby Digital+. Like I said, more testing is needed.

Hi Yusesope,

Followed your guide and now have a Dolby Vision back up of Casino Royale playing on shield 2019, looks stunning, but the DTS/HD is slightly out of synch, we need a way of determining the correct delay before mixing and the command to correct it - can you add this information please?

Thank you.

I'm having the same issue, seems to be about 200ms.
I just posted in the DVDFab forums as well, as even when I create the single layer file from DVDFab using the disc audio its out of sync also.

I think this is a DVDFab issue from what I've seen, maybe someone else can chime in.

To test, create a DVDFab single layer file and play it without musing in any other audio, just leave the AC3/DTS DVDFab muxes in and see if it still out of sync.

How can you make the MP4 with movies that only have DTS-HD or DTS Audio, not AC3?
