I also purchased the regular (non-steelbook) version of Endgame from Best Buy and ripped it today with MakeMKV without an issues.

I have a Mac with a Superdrive, and the Blu-ray from the 4K version reads for about 20 seconds, then gets spit back out, with no errors... any idea why??

because mac superdrives don't support UHD disks

You need to do some reading. UHD support has been discussed countless of times already in this forum and there are very detailed posts/guides regarding this in very clearly titled posts/stickies across this forum.

If it's an actual Apple drive, it won't do Bluray OR UHD BD.

Apple's Superdrive only supports DVDs and CDs. Apple never released an optical drive that can read/write blu-ray discs.

You can purchase a separate blu-ray drive that can read both blu-rays and 4K UHDs. Check out BillyCar's helpful buying guide here

My UHD copy encounters an error at about the 28000MB mark and closes MKV due to said error. :|

Well... what is the error? Are you able to post the MakeMKV log or screenshot so that someone can advise/help if possible?

Help us help you. We’re not mind readers nor are we sitting next you. No one can advise/help based on “it does not work” only on an online forum.

Any bit of detail can go a long way.

I was moreso providing an update, as it seemed to be a physical media problem rather than a SW problem as 28,000MB is around the point where it should, in theory, switch layers to the second one on the disc. MakeMKV doesn't give me an option to read an error log, it tells me that it "Encountered an error and must now close." i.e. catastrophic failure. Earlier, when I attempted a rip - it said it encountered 11 errors but didn't have a problem exiting to the main screen when I ejected the drive. Odd, but I'll try a third attempt. Thanks for the obvious statement though, I understand the lack of detail can be frustrating. I will let you know what this 3rd attempt provides in a bit when it's "done."

Update: MakeMKV finally gave me some good errors this go around - I believe I do have a physical media issue as it is a brand new disc and it has a corrupted m2ts at various offsets it is attempting to work around.
Update 2: It was a physical media issue. I returned and got a new copy and it ripped with no issues.
