On a side note the standard blu-rays in the pack are also new encodes/pressings. Now 1&2 are AVC not VC1 and the quality and clarity is much better than the original & 30th releases.

My US Steelbooks would not copy, unsure if my firmware update process was sound.

MakeMKV creates it for you, and even tells you where it is in the log window.

Is it worth re-ripping the standard BD's? Possibly even bonus features on the BDs?

Given the info posted by Trickyd-1 (thanks!), after that I’d imagine it’s personal preference depending on what you’re looking for. I will be, for an AVC, HDR-less upgrade from the previous Blu-rays. But then again, I’m one of those people who still keeps my DVDs/rips as well (for nostalgia? comparison?) even after I’ve upgraded to Blu-ray.

This review posted over on Blu-Ray.com does a phenomenal job of breaking down some of the differences between the UHD disc, the new remaster and the older blu-ray. There's also some comparison screenshots attached.

The reviewer is quite knowledgeable and often does these breakdowns when discs are released. Highly recommended reading, in my opinion.

It is certainly disappointing to hear that, as most people were dreading but kind of expecting, this isn't yet the perfect version of BTTF, oh Universal  Very helpful review as you mention.

Now followed up with his user review of the second film:

EDIT: And his review of the third film (with some condemning remarks on the new Blu-ray):

I don't like this guys review. he's saying at one point about red colour bleed on the "white" tremolo bar of a guitar when if you use your eyes you can see that the tremolo bar is chrome and its the reflection of the red guitar on it.

His comparison pictures are all photos taken off what looks like a projector screen, not digital screengrabs.

To me on my shield and Oled TV the 4k is a huge upgrade from the bluray version and probably as good as they could have made it.

No, he doesn't say white, he uses the word "while" in that sentence - and if you look at the comparison, you can see that there's no bleed on the previous Blu-ray, so it's definitely some type of issue. The apparent bleed is on the dials as well, which wouldn't reflect entirely red like that if it was a case of reflection. Yes, digital screenshot comparisons will be better when people start to do them.

Definitely disappointed that though it's granted the new transfer and encoded AVC, the first film again has a really low bitrate. Of course bitrate isn't everything and I'll see how the discs actually look this weekend, but it's not inconsequential either.
