If you want to use anything else (besides MakeMKV! Anydvd, or perhaps something else?) the ASUS would be the one to go for. For MakeMKV exclusively, the NS60 is the best!
Thank you. Who makes the NS60?

LG WH16NS60, which is an official UHD drive (thus a bit more expensive!)

Alex, you do know that either flasher can flash both LG and ASUS drives (plus other branded clones), don't you?
I do yes, but I still like to "brand match" whenever possible.
Sure wish we had a flasher for the BP50NB40....
@jonghotti, @Billycar11, @SamuriHL,

Just out of curiosity, if I was somehow able to find a way to flash the BP50NB40 and the BP60NB10, what firmware/s would we use to make them UHD friendly?

I know Mike has created some MK firmware for them both but if these don't turn out to be UHD friendly, what other firmware could we use?

Suggestions?

I don't know enough about those drives to be able to say for sure. If they are the same chipset as the rest of the lg based drives we deal with then in theory any of the uhd friendly firmware should work. Having not used one though I don't really know.

Hello Fine People! :-) I just joined this forum and I just want to say that my Fiancé’ and I sincerely appreciate MakeMKV and all those here sharing information. My Fiancé is suffering from doctor-caused Cushing Syndrome, because a quack-whack Nurse-Practitioner gave her too many steroids (Prednisone) in too short a period of time. Little did we know that steroids can linger in your body for a year, build up, and cause horrible side effects similar to cancer. So please don’t let this happen to anyone you know! If someone you know is being prescribed steroids, make sure their medical practitioner knows how to recognize the early signs of Cushing. If they don’t, time to walk! Please find a doctor that does. For one, it has eaten almost all her cartilage away, so it’s very painful for her to get up and change movie discs. We don’t get to go out and spend much on entertainment, so we buy movies, and I rip, compress, and store them in a cheap USB drive plugged into our router. If someone wants to come after us for doing this, so be it. We are also paid users of MakeMKV, and appreciate the author(s) very much!

I am a Technical Consultant for a Fortune 500 company, whatever that means. LOL :-) One thing I know it means is that I don’t have much time between work, keeping up with the changes in corporate I.T., (which is much different), taking care of my Fiancé, and keeping up with retail technology.

But I just wanted to share one thing that I spent a little time researching, and might have gotten a little lucky to find. I bought a couple of these around the turn of the year, and they seem to be working fine with MakeMKV’s Libre Drive and Java. I’ve been able to rip and encode about 10 4K-UHD discs with them without back-flashing their firmware. There were 3 DVD movies that I had trouble with: Blood Father, Dolphin Tale 2, and Gone with the Wind, but I was able to rip them with my old Pioneer. I am NOT an expert in this process by any means, so take my findings for what they’re worth, and I welcome any suggestions or criticism. May peace find all of you wonderful people.

So, the Cinematic Universal Edition from Wal-mart can be ripped. I know this because I bought a Cinematic Universal Edition from Best Buy that gives that error indicating the disk is bad. Indeed, my OPPO froze a couple of times. Now I get to have fun with trying to get Disney to refund my money for the disc I got from Best Buy.

For a few months my ASUS_BW-16D1HT was working fine.

Now suddenly it won't read any discs.

Someone commented that UHD discs may have messed up the drive.

Other people are talking about calibration data being corrupt.

I've tried to refresh the drive to 3.1MK, and then back to 3.02, and there is no difference.

Has anyone had this problem, or know what's happening? Honestly I double there has been more than 20 discs in the drive since I got it a year ago.

PLEASE advise. I REALLY want this working again... of course.

Did you try the DE version of 3.02 (not MK)? If not - try it, that's the one that helped me.

Yes, I did, the tried the MK again, and before posting this I tried the DE version of 3.02 again. Still doesn't read any discs. It's odd because it seemed to happen suddenly. It tries to read, but fails.

Help! And thanks.

It's dead I have seen a few Asus's fail like that all of the sudden they will read nothing.

It's still under warranty, but I don't think the serial number in the firmware matches anymore. Would love to get it fixed.

i made your firmware almost a year ago to the date i dont think your under warranty anymore unless you got an extended one. i also did not change your serial number the internal and external number do not match. i used the standard data mover tool for that for you to flash yourself.

Do you happen to have the file you made, or my original. Or at least the likely file names?

I checked in Asus’ site and it says in warranty until July 21. Maybe I have a longer warranty than I expected.

I actually show in my email, that the purchase was made on October 9th last year, and thought it was going to be out, but oddly it says it isn’t.

Thanks!
